Long time no post guys but I've still been in the game
Some updates:
He's All Heart Finally notched a win in his last race after a couple bad starts, his last race out prior we knew he needed another week but because that race was going to fill the next weeks race of his class wasn't going to fill so we had to put him out there, that said it prepared him nicely for his win on the 17th!~!! ran 6 furlongs in 108 3/5, not a bad time, made a nice move at the top of the stretch and never looked back, although the jockey almost relented too soon on the horse, he prevailed. He is now 1-1-0 in 4 starts this year.
Highdleburg, he keeps knocking on the door! in these claiming races, but can't pull out the W, three straight 2nd's. With Highdleburg he only has one way to race, and thats go for the lead, his gate speed is really good for the level he races at, so he always takes the lead. In these last three races I've been impressed immensely with his fighting spirit. The closer pulls up on him on the stretch and usually that spells doom and gloom for a lead horse at this level, but Highdleburg keeps fighting and normally finds a second wind! A win is coming b4 the meet is out.
Noosa Beach Who won last years G3 Longacres mile over Jersey Town (G1 Cigar winner), won his 7th stakes race in a row and 4th for the year yesterday at EMD. In a small field (why race him if you can't beat him!). The race was 8.5furlongs, and was won in a time of 1:41.13. His owners have put in the 25,000$ fee for early consideration into the BC Dirt Mile. This year the G3 Longacres Mile is not a win and your in race, as it was the previous 3 years (none of hte previous 3 winners went to the BC Mile....) So its possible Noosa Beach would not only need to win the Mile, but also travel south to Cali or east to race in another graded race to get entered.
The owners (who also bred, and train the horse) have discussed three different plans, 1) running the horse as there own 2) leasing the horse out 3) selling the horse. One of the most interesting options would be selling the horse obviously they are looking at a certain price range, and as the horse is 5 years old and a gelding it has maybe 2 more seasons left max....That said we do have some big owners that live in the northwest, maybe one will bite.
Awesome Gem will be nominated to the Longacres Mile but the connections are still considering several options for the horse.
Other notes, EMD is reporting a small increase in handle thus far, and a 13% increase in attendence over last years season! These are positive indicators, and Ron Crockett the president said they were expecting to be down 6-8% again this year.
