Re: grumpys nhl
After a long Friday night bender, I awoke to the sweet sound of Baji's Indian-Scottish accent, politely reminding me that I needed to take action with regards to my check. It took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on, but eventually I caught up and let her know that I really didn't gaf about the $15 fee and to just send it please. She informed me that I had to sign it, which was about the last thing I wanted to do at that moment. Lucky for her, I had to head home and the bank was on the way anyway. Told her I'd be there within the hour. She said ask for Baji or Kevin. I found it slightly odd that she didn't mention the blond bank teller, but not worth mentioning.
After a large, greasy breakfast, I headed for home, and remembered to stop by on my way. I strolled up to the counter, bypassing the line, as Baji had instructed me to do. A tall, possibly Spanish, possibly homosexual male teller looked concerned. "Who is this man, strolling up to the counter, oblivious to the queue that has formed?" he must have thought. Undeterred, I requested Baji. He seemed uncertain of her whereabouts, so I suggested that Kevin would suffice instead.
Over the past hour, I'd been hypothesizing as to who Kevin might be. The only male bank teller who was unaccounted for was the boring gentleman who always stood in the back, underneath the clock. I suspected that he might be Kevin, and when that very man strolled up to help me on this foggy-headed Saturday morning, I considered it something of an honor. For the first time, our eyes met; his were black, cold, dull but insisting, mine were bloodshot, glossed over, unfocused. And yet, Kevin showed me the respect that he might show one of his hardest working business clients. I followed Kevin's instructions and scribbled my name a couple of times, wished him a good day, and headed on to the grocery store. I do believe I'm gaining quite a reputation at the bank, if I do say so myself.
