If a sport doesn't have many compiled stats, compile the stats yourself and you'll have a huge advantage over everyone else.

Interesting...do others feel the same way?

I did get crushed in NHL last year, but figured that was just cause I am as square as they come...

Thoughts on if you have an edge in large markets it works against you (in terms of collaring) to go after small markets?

I always felt that NFL was the hardest to beat as the lines are usually razor sharp.

NCAAF and NCAAB (particularly college basketball) have been bread and butter for me along with MLB. My local always dreads the summers because he gets hammered on baseball and has to wait until the fall starts to finally get it back.

As for the NBA having to many games and meaningless mid season games, I think that's what makes it beatable. Knowing which teams are looking ahead possibly or coasting. Knowing which dogs to back in a good spot. Watching odds on moneyline's, comparing to previous lines, etc.

Example the other day the Nuggets were only laying 1' to GSW when they had been favored by 2' on the road the previous time and were coming off two days rest, etc. It was practically screaming trap ...

Just my to cents.

I've heard various games kicked around. Most sources cite MLB and NCAA Hoops as 2 of the more popular choices. I also have heard the NFL is a very tough nut to crack for the pros.

What's an adequate list, ranking them starting w/the most "beatable" game?

Is tennis on the list? What about NHL? Again, I've read that NHL monylines are very exploitable. Yet in another article I have read that pro bettors have had a very difficult time with hockey. So it's hard to know what to believe.

But in general this is the impression I have gotten:

1) NCAAB
2) MLB
3) Tennis
4) NHL

Also is moneyline, in general, typically the w2g?

American bias there. Elsewhere only tennis on that list is getting large volume. NCAAB limits too low outside North America without much interest, while MLB and NHL are tough to beat.

Also it is tough to know how to answer your question. Often the easiest to beat are the ones the least popular for betting.

Absolutely no reason to restrict yourself to moneylines. Perhaps that idea comes from NHL and MLB for reason the bookmakers margins are less. In that case when random betting it makes sense. But only concern is finding +EV bets no matter if it is a run or puck line, prop, total, moneyline or whatever else.

It should really go without saying, but bet what you enjoy and figure out a way to crush it.

Esports and MMA are the two sports I find easiest to beat, especially if you only pick the really amazing spots, it's not uncommon to beat a closing line by 50+ points in either sport if you catch a good opener

Silly topic but, betting Wacha as a dog in any situation is going to be good value for the next few years. Yes, even tomorrow night.

I'm a newb looking to study a bit about the technical side and try to get a little into sports betting. I've played and been of fan of european football since i was a little kid and dabbled in predictions in football matches but i keep coming up to the same dilemma; even though i do have a fair amount of success with picking winners it is very difficult to handicap these games due to the dynamic nature of the sport whereas in many US sports like NFL, NBA and MLB you have stats for basically everything and the games resemble more of a tactical chess match with individual match-ups making it easier to analyze down to the last detail. Given that football is much more dynamic, the difference between 2 teams is often extremely little, the difficulty of predicting a draw and the sudden changes teams can take from one game to another do you think that it is more difficult to find an edge in betting on football than other sports?

And this leads me to my more general question: Is it easier to analyze and find an edge in some sports and are there other sports that you should absolutely stay away from due to the perceived randomness of events ?

If you have been a fan of European soccer since you were a kid then you

would be making a big mistake in thinking of abandoning it as a means to

beating the bookie.

The way to bet on soccer is to concentrate 90% of all your efforts on antepost/long-term markets.

Indeed I have no hesitation in stating that soccer is probably the easiest sport to beat........

.......if you bet on long-term markets.

Good Luck

It becomes boring if you do it long enough. Diversification of the sports you bet, and even your overall gambling skill set (blackjack, all poker variants, etc.) makes it a much more exciting career. Extremely active minds tend to bore easily.

The only future I went out of my way to strongly recommend online was FSU to win the ACC at slightly better than even odds last season. I obviously continued backing them this season on futures, but it wasn't posted anywhere so I won't mention it. I did say the only concern with that FSU bet was waiting 7 months to collect your cheese, lock it up and make it rain.

Futures offer huge edges at times. I remember my first trip to Vegas putting 90% of my life savings on Jordan to win the NBA championship on his first full season back with the bulls at 2-1, life changing bet for me at that age, a monsoon season of making it rain.
