Basebell: Easiest Sport to Predict

I'm under the impression that baseball is the easiest sport to profit from. Is this true?

Last week I bet $500 on the Texas Rangers vs Oakland A's game. The Rangers were a slam dunk easy pick. The money line was Oakland: +170 .. Rangers: -180.

The Rangers won 8-1 and I pocketed $300+.

Since baseball is highly dependent on pitching, it seems easiest to predict the outcome of certain games. Also factor in the fact that it's late in the season and the A's aren't playing for anything, the Rangers had a huge chance to win.

On the other hand, good teams are projected to lose 60-70 games a year. This gives room to bet on the underdog and win big in certain situations.

Does anyone else think baseball is the easiest sport to predict?

it's fairly easy but good ptichers get rocked every once in a while and/or games get close as other pitchers try to pitch up to the level of the superstart pitcher....good luck.

def take the money lines though as the 1.5 lines are tempting but games are often decided by 1 run

What's the optimal strategy when betting baseball? What if we only bet underdogs and win 1/3 of our bets? Would we still profit?

I think the perceived similarity between basebell and baseball causes the books some trouble. With so many baseball games, huge limits, and tons of data out there, baseball games are sharp.

Fortunately these books have just transferred these same models over, making basebell hugely profitable in the short run.

I mean, just because the shortstop and the bellringer stand in the same place does not make it equivalent.

You mean 1 game isn't a sufficient sample size?

I imagine part of it is that slam dunks for you may not be so easily spotted by everyone else. You should use this skill and become massively rich beyond your wildest desires. And if you are kind enough to post your picks here, then we can become rich with you. I certainly wished you let me know about the rangers slam dunk - which slam dunks are you betting on today?

OP,
when you have a slam dunk in basebell it can be easy to win lots of money
When you have a slam dunk in basketball you get 2 points

Your thoughts ?

Re: Basebell: Easiest Sport to Predict

OP is right in that the game's outcome is highly dependent on the pitcher. If the team is at home that actually adds to their advantage, so you should probably allow some leeway if you're betting against the home team. The elite pitchers in this game are going to make their team win 60, 65, sometimes even 70% of the time. But be careful because sometimes an upset can happen and if you pay a high price you lose a lot.

i find the best strategy is to parlay all home teams with elite pitchers starting in a given day.... that way you eliminate a lot of the vig.

one time i bet on the yankees -185 sabathia and it was a similar slam dunk where they won 9-2 and i fired up the live chat support just to thank my book for the free money.

Vetiver, same issue. can't tell if you're serious. My apologies if I've forgotten a posting history of yours that would indicate one way or the other.

Cliff Lee under MLB investigation for taking bribes from Buffalo Wild Wings. Bet both teams -1.5 next start as he dispels suspicion.

Although funny, I was somewhat troubled with the game fixing aspect of the bw3 commercials. I'm such a life nit.

Interesting. Usually at this point in the season, people have abandoned betting baseball because it's too unpredictable (and soul crushing).
