Let's do this

RCB 100/1. Playing as solid as anybody lately. One of the most accurate off the tee in all of golf, and read he's been best in golf the last 6 weeks at driving. 4 top 10s in the last 5 years as the Irish Open. B2b top 5s at the Open de France which is always links like and exposed to the elements. Done well at all the WGC events this year. This guy has a real chance

Adam Scott 22/1

Puma Boy 26/1

I'm new to golf so apologies if I sound like newb but wouldn't it be better to bet on RCB finishing in the top ten at odds of 9-1 or 8-1 (bookie dependent), rather than winning outright (100-1). The latter is variance heavy with almost no reward.

Assume RCB finishes in the top ten- what is the chance he finished first? If we assume all players are equal, then 10% (in reality it would be less since many of those finishing in the top ten would be superior golfers to RCB). By taking top ten finish odds of $10 (9-1) you avoid this variance heavy proposition altogether.

So

Top ten finish $10 (9-1)

Vs

Finishes first (I.e. Top ten finish*P(win given he finishes in top ten)) - assuming the latter term is 10%, odds of a top ten finish equate to $10 to arrive at overall odds of (roughly) 100-1.

First option is better. Am I missing something?

the only problem with backing someone to finish top 5 top 10 etc is sometimes there are alot of ties so 9 players could finsh at say -5 or better then your player comes 10th at -4 but with 4 other players and then you get something like 1/4 of the odds which is pretty annoying , but on the other side your player can be say 20th at the start of the last round so if you backed him to win he has zero chance , but if he has a nice last round he can still come in the top 10 and you get paid

if it was me doing your bet id have $10 on a top 10 finish and maybe $2 on him to win , just to make it even nicer if he does come 1st!

Taking Danny Lee and Louie O. Just two. No roll after moving all in on France to win euro before their semi final vs Germany . JFC that was painful

Picked DJ to win the US open....going to double down on that into this weekend and say he's the best of the favorites to win, especially given how long many holes on this course are. He's the best driver and just so hot right now. The greens are not extremely tough so I feel that neutralizes spieth's advantage there somewhat. Rory really hasn't shown anything great this season besides in the tournament he hosted in Ireland. And Day will probably get vertigo, and apparently he got hurt in practice this week.

Colin Montgomerie:
-Top 20 finish - $10
-Leading after 1st round - $100-$150

Grew up on this course and finished in ties for 24th and 25th the last two times the Open was played at Troon (Source: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...open/87022090/ ). Has a rubbish putting game to be frank, hence the first round bet.

Marc Warren - Top 20 finish @ $11

Loves bad weather (esp windy conditions); putting is average though and accuracy off the tee is so-so.

Scott Piercy - Win @ $101

Good to see your crush starting well caroll . Again, I'm new to golf but does anyone know why micklesons odds are down all the way to $4.50? I mean I know he's leading but we're only a quarter of the way through this thing and... Its Phil mickleson. Feels like he should be paying more odds given how super wide the field is and how average he is.

Another noob question- I'm trying to ascertain which players have the most advantageous tee times for round 3.

I found that those in the earlier half are expected to:
-enjoy clear weather but...
-face moderate winds (25km/h)

While those starting later face the opposite proposition:
-rain in patches but...
-less wind (17-19 km/h)

What group is in a more advantageous position?

I have rnd 3 bets on Keegan Bradley > S. Kjeldsen @-102 and F. Molinari > DJ @+158. Also live bet K. Bradley to win it all @18.5/1 ( hoping to get a good round out of him and find a couple of live/value plays in for the last round)

Wind and wing gusts are most important. I've read statistical studies on it's effect. Never seen anybody bother with the effect of playing in the rain so I assume it's not important unless it's a scenario like when Glover won the US Open
