2012 Major League Baseball

The new MLB season, it's like waiting for christmas eh folks, and as per usual that casino in Nevada LV, The Atlantis, has released the 1st season win totals:

2012 Major League Baseball Season Win Totals

Arizona Diamondbacks 84.5
Atlanta Braves 86.5
Baltimore Orioles 70.5
Boston Red Sox 87.5
Chicago Cubs 73.5
Chicago White Sox 76.5
Cincinnati Reds 86.5 (-120o)
Cleveland Indians 75.5
Colorado Rockies 82.5
Detroit Tigers 94.5
Houston Astros 62.5
Kansas City Royals 78.5
Los Angeles Angels 89.5
Los Angeles Dodgers 81.5
Miami Marlins 82.5
Milwaukee Brewers 82.5
Minnesota Twins 74.5 (-120u)
New York Mets 74.5 (-120u)
New York Yankees 93.5 (-120u)
Oakland Athletics 72.5
Philadelphia Phillies 95.5
Pittsburgh Pirates 73.5 (-120u)
San Diego Padres 70.5
San Francisco Giants 87.5
Seattle Mariners 72.5
St. Louis Cardinals 87.5 (-120u)
Tampa Bay Rays 87.5
Texas Rangers 94.5

..............now i'm a huge Tigers fan, but 94.5 come on. Best value for me is the A's @72.5.

Re: 2012 Major League Baseball

With soo much time until payoff, a solid bond investment might have a higher expected yield. I like your pick though.

Their pitching is vastly underrated. They lost Gio Fernandez, a good underrated arm, but picked up Bartolo Colon who should love pitching in Oakland, a real pitcher's park with a wide foul ball area.

For the sake of your bet hopefully Dallas Braden returns to full form from his shoulder surgery. If soo he will make up a helluva 1-2 pitching punch with McCarthy who closed out the season strong (I remember riding him and under late in season). Anderson's return from Tommy John is also important, but pitching shouldn't be their issue.

Their real need is offensive obviously. Cespedes should definitely add some much needed production 20-30 HR should easily be within reach for him. That will mean alot for a team who was so desperately in need of a punch last season. Oakland is usually overlooked by their hometown fans even. I think they go over here usually, GL.

Re: 2012 Major League Baseball

well yeah, you've hit the nail on the head there e c, that 72.5 total is a huge overaction to the pitcher situation. sure they're in transition with an eye on 2015 and possibly moving to san jose? but i'm sure billy's got a few suprises in the pipeline, along with cespedes to get them closer to 80 than 70 wins,

Re: 2012 Major League Baseball

i think that the Red Sox & Marlins going over are good bets

Red Sox looks a little low at 87.5 & Marlins should be much improved & give the other teams in their division more trouble than usual

Meh. The other team will be swinging for the same fence.

To play devils advocate...Colon was pretty terrible in the 2nd half of last year and saw his velocity take a hit as the season wore on. Cespedes is no guarantee to be in the everyday lineup from day 1 as they have 5 OF's. Although a healthy 2nd half from Brett Anderson would help most of that.
