Probably the last diamond scared Villain enough into thinking you made the flush.
I might just flat the turn bet and go for thin value on the river. Something like $20 into a $42 pot might get some calls from Villain.
I think you played it fine though. A lot of Villains would be inclined to call this river bet as a bluff catcher with 2-pair or maybe even top pair.
