I used to post here quite a bit, mostly 1.5-3 years ago. For the last 2 years I have been playing MSNL only, with a lot of success. I play mostly 6max 5/10 and 3/6 but I also mix in some HU and FR. I am at the point where I feel like I'm one of the stronger regs at 5/10 on Party/FTP/Stars.

I got a ton out of SSNL when I was moving up the limits and had some fun posting here and playing in the hu tourneys and stuff.

MSNL results:

Feeling kind of sick so I'll be around for a while to answer any questions

Funniest/sickest hand ever played?
05-13-2010 , 06:16 PM
How much have you won in those 800k hands? Who are the best 2-4 and 3-6 regs on Party in your opinion?
05-13-2010 , 06:18 PM
How much volume do you put in? how many tables? Biggest improvement in any given month and what did you do in it(as in, played less tables, got coaching, something clicked and you started crushing etc)
What do you think would your 100nl winrate be if you had a propbet where you had to maintain a average amount of tables of 5+ and had to play 100K hands in 2 months time.

How does one win at MSNL?

do you find it hilarious (as i do) when people can't do multiplication?

edit: i guess you'd have to do a bit of addition too.

I do want to make it at 5/10 but I somehow feel like there's so much work to do that I need to step it up a bit and make more time for poker, less time for other things.(and I play fulltime lol)
Have you sacrificed any hobby's or anything like that to have a better shot at improving in poker?
There just aren't enough hours in a day to do everything I want to and still crush poker tbh lol, ever had that feeling?
Ever travelled and played poker during? how did that work out if you did?
05-13-2010 , 06:31 PM
I never watch videos anymore, and even when I did, I didn't watch too many MSNL vids. Do you think you need to be watching them often to know what the current trends are/how the games are playing?

Did you get coaching for MSNL? If so, like a lot from multiple people?

You've made a nice chunk a change off poker, and a lot of MSNL/HSNL guys ball out with spending on whatever. Are you the type to buy whatever you want or are you a saver? If it's the former, what are some of your sick purchases?

Do you play for a living? If online poker gets GG'd come 6/1, would you continue to play online or move to vegas or somewhere and play live, or give up on serious poker?

Recently, this one made me laugh pretty hard: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...postcount=3909

I squeezed AA 4200 deep at 15/30 and got cold called by the weak player at the table. Flop Q9x and got it in against the fish's 99 and a regs KQ and lost a 12k pot. 15/30 is rigged :/

lost AAAKK to a royal flush once for a 400bb pot at 200NL.

Haha my bad, didn't see the bb/100's at the end. Nice win rates Harang

how old are you?

what's your daily routine?

what hobbies do you have outside of poker?

how often do you smoke or drink?

when you were a kid did you have a "dream job"? if so, what was it?

Not sure about the current best 2/4 regs since I generally play 3/6 and 5/10 although I played a bit in December. I was surprised to find that there were a decent number of pretty solid regs playing 2/4.

3/6..maybe me But a lot of the best players at 5/10 don't play much 3/6 (eg Jetfire68, who is imo the best player at Party 5/10).
Other good players that I think play 3/6 are ITSOVER9000, freepwnyride, AMan69222, mojitogreen, rockwaym, pietjansen. The name changing thing makes it hard to tell who is good/who is who.

Don't want to post a lifetime graph but just hit 1/2 way to top hat lifetime for online cash (including rakeback/all sites).

how many buy-ins was your biggest downswing ? what kept you playing ?

I try and average 25 hours of playing a week, but don't always make it. I play 8-12 tables usually, which works out to about ~700 hands/hour usually.

100NL, probably 6-8 ptbb playing ~10 tables? I'm actually not sure. For HU i'd guess higher. Even though the games are waaay easy than 10x the stakes, rake is way higher.

Never travelled and played online poker. Could work if you were living somewhere else for a while I guess, met some American poker players in Argentina doing this and they seemed to enjoying it.

I would say most of my big months of improvement came early on and since then it has been smaller and smaller improvements. I definitely improved the least when I was running bad!

When I was in my last year of law school I probably spent 100+ hours a month playing/studying poker. So yea I put my grades below poker. If you play fulltime then I think you would likely get really burnt out if you spent more than maybe 50 hours a week doing poker related stuff. That's me though. It does take a lot of work and perserverance though.

What are your thoughts regarding online poker in the next 5 years?

Really solid poker fundamentals, good game selection, very good tilt control, experience. You definitely don't need to be some sort of math whiz or creative artist though.

cool thanks for the answers.

yeah I guess that is a good answer, a bit harder to put hobby's/travelling/spending time with friends below poker though (but that's just me, and why I never did graduate pbb lol)

I wouldn't worry too much about "trends" in poker. I'd say watch videos from the best players until you aren't getting much out of them. I used to watch a lot of videos, but have recently started watching only the occasional one. It is hard not to learn something from a CTS or FoxwoodsFiend video.

I got 5 hours of coaching from Ahnuld and 5 hours from Ansky. Both were definitely worth it, although I don't think coaching is necessary it can help fill in 'gaps' in your game faster I think. I also got coaching from Jared Tendler, a mental game coach, and was able to reduce my tilt and improve my focus. Hard to quantify, but I think this is the type of coaching a lot of players should consider first, since tilt/loss of focus related losses are pretty big for most players.

Play full-time for a living in Toronto. If online poker ever blew up I would not move to vegas or play a ton live, would get too bored and I like living here.

I don't live cheaply but I try and save a lot. Cool things I've bought hmmm a trip around europe, trip to argentina and have booked trips to vancouver, california, vegas, iceland Also bought a sweet 50" pioneer plasma with totem speakers and a good receiver that I'm very happy with.

Mej,

lol just edited my post, that should say 100 hours a month not a week!
05-13-2010 , 07:08 PM
oh, one last question related to thegreatwall's one.
If poker died at the high stakes, what is the lowest stake/hourly you would accept a drop to before you just quit poker all together?

a few 20-30 buyin downswings, no ridiculous run of negative variance fortunately. Lots of 50K+ hand breakeven stretches including a couple of 70-80k breakeven stretches I'd guess.

I figured they had to end sometime actually just had a super bad run of like -25 buyins in 25k hands followed by a massive heater, +68 buyins in next 34k hands, so always good to think that there is a heater around the corner.

varies, but generally play poker in the afternoon/evening and spend time with gf/friends in the evening/nighttime or play sports in local leagues i'm in. I have a lot of trips planned in July so that'll change a bit then.

I play volleyball and some other sports with friends in a local league. I'm a big movie fan, like to read, travel, eat fine food, follow sports and fantasy sports.

Drink on weekends usually, don't smoke cigarettes.

hmmm thought astronaut would be cool!

what makes good game selection? now keep in mind I am referring to SSNL, mid stakes obv have more regs, but SS has a lot more people running around donking off cheeseburgers. Im currently between 50/100 NL and I guess I would have to say I do not practice good table selection because it is not needed (?) (take that with a grain of salt).

running at about 3ptbb100 at 100NL and 6.5ptbb at 50NL... the only table selection I use is dont sit on the left of a known reg who I know is thinking on the next level. seems to work for me..
