1/2 NL at casino.
Hero just sat down($300), maybe saw 2 orbits before picking up Jd10d in MP. Villian has about $350 and opens utg+2 for $8. Hero calls, everyone else folds.
Flop: J 10 5 r pot = $19
Villian leads for $10, hero raises to $30, v thinks, calls.
Turn brings 7c, 5 is also a club. Villian checks, hero bets $55 into $79, v calls.
River brings 2s. Villian checks, hero bets $80 into $189, villian shoves. Hero??

PF his range is most likely somewhat limited but it's an unknown in live poker so who knows.

The flop lead call is consistent with AA, KK or QQ, but any other broadway hand is likely sticking around.

The turn check call doesn't really tell us anything on this board. Villain's hand definitely seems to be one he wants to get to showdown kind of cheap.

The river value bet is fine and the check raise is very surprising. No draw hit and I wouldn't expect him to lead with a set on the flop. Pocket 7's makes sense here, but I doubt pocket 2's would have stuck around to this point.

Assuming he does this with AA and KK too I think we have to call.

Yea the c/r is very surprising but easy call. I expect to see overpairs, bluffs/busted draws, and an occasional worse 2pair all way more often than a set in this spot

Your river sizing is poor. Size up the flop raise and turn bet so you can shove the river yourself. Don't have to worry about a x/r then.

What about 89 in this spot? Can't villain have this in his range too?
