pot commitment pot commitment

I have trouble determining when I am pot committed or not. It seems alot of times my read is right, but I have bet a large portion of my stack on the flop, with, say, a big pair, only to get raised allin. Let's say half of your chip stack is bet with AA, on the flop. and you get raised all in and you know the guy has a set. I guess you can find a fold, but is that really reasonable since all of your chips are already in the middle. I guess it depends on how confident your read is? Any thoughts?

You could put 99% of your stack in, get raised, and if you're 100% certain you're beat you should never call.

Being pot committed is a fallacy. It all depends on your opponent's range, your equity vs that range, and your pot equity.

What about pot control? Don't bet an amount where you'll think you're pot committed. Pay attention to your SPR (stack to pot ratio) and how many PSB's (pot sized bets) you have. Bet a proportion of the pot that you think will aid in your read of your opponents holding. Half your stack on the flop, he knows you've pot committed yourself. What about 60% of pot? If he continues, it tells you something about what he likely has. Obviously, there's a difference between dry and wet flops as well.

Betting an amount where you'll only get called if you're beat is a bad idea. Lots of players do it who play at the same level I play at. As an extreme example I somewhat frequently see people go all in pf with JJ. They win the blinds, show and say "I hate pocket jacks". That's just cheating yourself out of value to not lose a hand. And when you get called, you lose your whole stack 80% of the time.

Thanks. My thinking was that because the board was 10 8 4 with two spades , I was betting an amount 2/3 of the pot to give any draws the wrong price to call, ( i guess half the pot would have accomplished the same thing) but that amount commited me to the pot. I probably should have taken into account that the flush was probably an unlikely holding maybe, since the pot was 3 bet? I think i should have bet half the pot, planing to fold to a shove. That way i still price out the draw and save chips.
