You can change the keys to your current computer by logging into your HEM manager account on their website.

something about Tri has always bothered me. Back when I had a coaching thread he contacted me about making a video series. I thought he was shady so I turned him down. Glad I'm not involved in this! (tho I don't really have anything to hide)

I stayed in a house in vegas with Tri in 08. Nothing about him seemed shady. I'm at work and don't have time to read that thread right now. I can't vouch for his results or coaching ability.

But again, I never got any inclination he was shady. Of course, even I was still beating MSNL in 08.

Shady might not be the correct word. I don't think he's a scammer or has malevolent intentions or anything (unless price gauging is considered malevolent). It's more that I am distrusting of his attempts to build a coaching empire without the results to back it up. I remember for example him charging a ridiculous price for a PLO book and showed like a 10k hand sample (or something, can't really recall) of him winning at PLO.

And now he's coaching poker coaches and makes the claim that you don't have to be a winning player to coach... just seems off to me.

He's not shady but he overexagerates things hugely. If he were in other fields he could probably be sued for false advertising.

Some of his books are good deals imo, but some aren't. Also that how to make 100k at coaching is just actually kind of annoying. Seems like he's just trying to pump out as many books as possible to make as much money. Maybe the book is worth the value but I'm skeptical. What's next how to make 100k at selling poker books?

I actually read his new book and there were some helpful ideas that a professional player may or may not benefit from. cliffs of the entire book in a sentence: approach poker as a business, don't tilt and always improve your game)

the rest of the book was repeated materal from his previous books.

lets see some more book recs. everyone post something that they enjoyed reading in 2011 - on any topic whatsoever
I'm very interested in learning and how the brain works in general. Two recommendations:
"The Talent Code" (somewhat pop-style but still a fairly interesting read)
"Pragmatic Thinking & Learning" (slight IT focus but excellent book imo)

Leatherass has a pretty similar book. I own it and it was an interesting read. I think Tri claimed he is the first to write such a book for online poker or something which obviously isn't true.

clowntable you nerdballer pokerknowledge master did I play the hand correctly @ 400?
01-05-2012 , 06:20 PM
If you played it, probably not

And with that jolly old comment highlighting my superfriendly character in mind...I'm counting 0 applications for being my mentor ITT so far.

Looking for a mentor in 2012, has to be someone that crushes 200NL+ and is better at pokerz than me. I expect to Skype call you once a week or something and I'll pay you 0$. All you'll get is talking poker for however long you want with me once+ a week (or other stuff I'm superawesome so that's sick value).

Candidates post ITT, unfortunately for you I'll only pick the most elite of the elite...i.e. I'd concider guys like amuro, shipit and mebbe oldjude if he reads this.

Whatevs, Happy New Year and may it be the year of returned funds. Love you all, especially the regfish.

damn you hater you undermine my skills!
01-05-2012 , 07:12 PM
You don't need a mentor Clown, you used to baffle the hell out of me on Skype with your in depth analysis.

I think you played it fine curve but it might be a turn fold ? Turn bet seems mandatory but I think if he were bluffing he would lead that turn so his c/r range is prob all value. Like I don't think he checks to give up and then decides to c/r bluff

edit: then again you're never that strong and you're pretty close to the top of your range. I dunno, MSNL is ****ing hard and annoying!

Sure hope so. I get so bored waiting for HU tables. Was so nice to 4 table while waiting and still be able to push near 100k hands per month...

edit: Also, is PTR working for anyone? It keeps trying to redirect me to another site which is a little suspicious...
01-05-2012 , 08:24 PM
PTR works fine for me.

Even as a made up word, "over-exaggerates" is a nice way to put it actually! And it is mainly his marketing strategy that is getting a slamming, since it resembles scammy infomercial-type deals like "want to make $175k per year?", and creating false discounts for the publications (it currently lists Baluga Whale's 3rd edition book as List Price: $950.00, New Price: $59.99, You Save: $890.01 (93%), when in reality it was released at the $60 price, and has only ever been at that price except for a pre-release $10 discount).

I have also seen items listed for special discounted prices "only for x days", and yet the text never changed for much longer than whatever the x was.

It's really off putting, and it's not surprising NVG is having a field day.
01-06-2012 , 09:04 PM
^^ i wonder how much he made from naive people/ randoms who just bought it thinking they were getting an amazing deal though?
01-06-2012 , 09:17 PM
Yeah, that's the scummy aspect.

His original book, Let There Be Range, was supposedly really good for the time, one of the first batch of expensive e-books - it also had it's price slashed in half, thought at that time it is easier to understand it happening, what with the quick depreciation of "new poker strategy".
01-06-2012 , 09:21 PM
it is scummy for sure, yeah. i just wonder if this will be his downfall or if there will remain enough unsuspecting people who still buy his stuff.

let there be range was very average for the most part when i read it, although i heard cole south only contributed one chapter, and i didnt read it until quite a while after it was released.
