I'm actually looking for one good book on this type of subject, but reviews are bad for the one you mentioned.
- no in depth tips
- nothing useful at all
- not well written
- we are presented with chapter after chapter of - well, nothing
- if you are expecting substantive theoretical sports psychological insights
from this book, you will be thoroughly disappointed
- it's clumsily written
- there's not much in here most of us don't already know.
- if you're a couch potato athlete that only watches a game, this book is probably good.
and a ton more reviews like those, so I dunno...

Is this similar to the Power of Now? I'm currently listening to this when I can find the time. Still going back and fourth on how I feel about it but it does have some things that really help when playing live poker and just in life in general.

Re: ***OFFICIAL 2012 FTP REGS THREAD***
it's similar in that both books borrow heavily from eastern philosophies and traditions. personally, i preferred the practicing mind much more as imo it has a ton of immediate practical value. i remember reading the power of now and not being that impressed; i think eckhart tolle rubbed me the wrong way and i'm generally rather suspicious of self-proclaimed gurus. he sure seems to profit greatly from his spirituality. but i read it a few years ago, maybe i'll revisit.
the practicing mind manages to be both insightful and incredibly succinct. the guy works in professional piano restoration and concert preparation. he talks about how many people are only able to derive satisfaction only from setting and meeting goals and how if that were his only focus it would literally drive him crazy in his work. he discusses how to turn your awareness towards the process of what you're doing and see perfection as an ever changing and evolving experience that never ends instead of a destination.
it's been right up my alley, in poker and other areas of life. i am an incredibly achievement oriented person and attachment to achieving has always held me back. especially in poker. i tend to get impulsive and frustrated when i decide my results aren't up to par and we all know how that translates into results. now im trying to learn how to harness all that energy and aim it in a more productive direction.
seven7s has also recommended to me the mental game of poker which looks excellent but unfortunately has taken a long time getting to me.

Re: ***OFFICIAL 2012 FTP REGS THREAD***
thats a cool summary tufts, im big into reading and philosophy in general, prolly take a look at that book as i totally agree with the idea of "perfection" being ever evolving.
Also, anything that guy seven7s says is usually correct. give it a read, i just started it.
on another note, i posted this in the other thread, but my brother and his teammate are 6-1 in the world series of beer pong, right in the running. I have half the action, first is 50k.
they are team "bink, bink, game". www.bpong.com lets you sweat the action....they also have their team shirts say "we bink, you drink." on the back. hahaha so sick

ty ty. I will toot my own horn here and say that I am a great **** talker.
For the reviews of the book, I dunno I really enjoyed it. It might not have mind blowing stuff that I've never even thought of, but it is still awesome to have positive thought processes reinforced into your brain. I've never been a big reader into books like this so maybe that's why I liked it so much.
Even if it got bad reviews, spending 5 bucks to find out can't hurt, right?

While that is true, it's not about the money, it's about the time. I still have 3 others books pending and I want to make sure I find the right books so I don't waste time.
BTW, Kindle ftw!
