[NL100] OP vs Reg's raise on monotone flop

Stack 100x

Hero UTG raises KdKh
BTN calls
All folds

Flop: Js2s4s (6,5$)
H c-bet (4,60$)
BTN raises (16$)

Oppo is a Reg, stats: 30/25 – Raise c-bet 11% - Agg% 45/32/22
He call IP w/ pp, Broadways suited, Best broadways off, some SC and some Axs.
Usually on wet board he raises 2P+, draw and sometimes bluff.
I haven't info on how he plays monotone board.

What's your plan in this spot?

Re: [NL100] OP vs Reg's raise on monotone flop

This is a clear slightly ahead/way behind spot. When we are raised it is good to get in the habit of thinking about the range we are way ahead of, way behind and flipping with. On this flop:

Way behind: flushes, sets, 2p (if you are serious about finding an accurate EV you will need to break this down into a detailed range with specific combos)

Way ahead: pure bluffs

Flipping: Pair + a spade, (AsJx, As4x, ect)

Easy fold. In the future please learn to use the converter and you will get more replies.

Flop = fold. Board sucks and if you shove you are turning your hand into a bluff and if you call there is a good chance a spade peels off.

We are only seeing a spade 21% of the time on the turn. Your analysis needs to go deeper.

Fold. Not a profitable spot to be in.

11% raise c-bet is very low and probably nuts-heavy. Also his raise is very big. Just fold.

If his raise c-bet% was in the twenties, this could be a tough spot.

Re: [NL100] OP vs Reg's raise on monotone flop

How many players are in the table? The more people there are on the table, the more you'd want to fold (since, roughly speaking, your range is stronger, and therefore his range must be stronger to do this).

I fold here. BalugaWhale talks about this exact situation in the "monotone boards" chapter of his book. I think he'd say to fold as well. (More or less for the same reasons given above, plus he claims that people don't tend to bluff on monotone boards).

An important point: If you do choose to not fold, then I never raise here. Calling here means that you're bluffcatching. One might be tempted to raise here for "protection", but the point is that there's not much to protect against: charging his draws is a relatively small concern, since you're bluffcatching anyway. Once a spade falls, you can comfortably fold. And if a spade doesn't fall, you have three streets of hard decisions ahead of you. (If an ace falls, I fold as well, since in order to semi-bluff here he pretty much has to have the ace of spades).
