I read that thinking it was Ultimatebet, rather than a different site. They really picked a bad name. On the other hand, it's got several old PS people - Terrence Chan, who set up support there (amongst other things), Scotty who's well known on 2 + 2 and Joe Versaci who ran PS' north american marketing.

yeah they definitely need to get someone better at branding. i actually read it as ultimate bet as well and didn't realize the error until reading your comment. the thought that immediately ran through my mind was "yeah it's legal poker in the US, but it's ultimate bet sooooo i probably won't deposit"
04-30-2013 , 12:11 PM
And it isn't just that the brand confuses the likes of us - it also won't appeal to random people who don't know who ultimatebet are but aren't in the 21-30 age bracket where UFC appeals.
04-30-2013 , 09:59 PM
casuals don't know what ultimatebet is.

casuals DO know what the ultimate fighting championship is.

these guys know what they're doing. it's gonna be a big success.

I agree. The name is fine. If you didn't know, the owners of this site also own the UFC (and the home of the UFC is in Vegas) so the cross-promotion should be very effective.

ah that makes a lot more sense. that's like the perfect demographic to recruit to play poker ****
05-01-2013 , 03:02 AM
21-30 men know what UFC is. Everyone else either doesn't or thinks that the site isn't for them. It's not an inclusive brand. In a market with tiny liquidity they are already excluding 3/4 of the population. That's why it's a bad brand. The fact that it works for YOU doesn't really matter (particularly as a large chunk of 21-30 men vaguely know who UB were).

It'd be perfectly fine if there were national legislation, but with tiny liquidity they have very different challenges.

A LOT of people know what UFC is, not just 21-30 males. Also, the name is NOT UFC Poker. Your argument is better if the name is UFC Poker. UFC Poker would exclude some people from joining, but not the name Ultimate.

How is Ultimate Poker any different than Random New Site Poker?
05-01-2013 , 10:44 AM
They're going to use UFC images etc - they are on their site at the moment for example.

A lot of people know what Pepper Pig is but that doesn't mean that someone using that branding is going to attract anyone outside its demographic of 6 year old British girls.

Agree to disagree. I'm sure their brand is going to do just fine. They're selling poker, not a good.

Currently stacking donks on 50bb tables on UP

GAMES ARE GOOD

Ok, so now that I went busto with my initial $300 ach deposit (their max allowed) I literally have no way to deposit more money on their site. They won't accept another ach for some reason. The only other 2 ways (bank wire and check) require instructions via a link that is broken on their site. And I'm in Reno so there's no Station casino to go to. The software is worse than aids (even for beta). And their customer service is swamped by emails (it's been over 24hours since I emailed them about my ach problem). I'm sure the first site that comes next with half way decent software is going to put UP out of business.
No instant HH's
No table sizing
No pot sizing buttons
No note taking
No wait lists
and a myriad of other glitches.

And worst of all, no way for anyone in northern Nevada to deposit money. Well done UP. Good thing you rushed this product right out there.

So we moved here ~2 years ago and signed a standard lease. It was for a year and then became monthly. Our landlord has been helping us look for a house, so he knows we're trying to buy. He just informed us that they're doing away with monthly leases, and we have 60 days to either sign a yearly lease or GTFO.

Don't know what state you are in but certainly the landlord can't do this in New York. May not be worth the trouble, but you should look into it if it seems worth it.

the first one has to clear your bank first (2-4 days or something). Patience, DegenNight

Apparently Indiana laws are not so renter-friendly. I read up, and I'm calling a lawyer just in case, but it seems pretty clear.

If I'd been asked to sign a yearly lease when the 1st year ended, I'd have 2 more months. Bleh.

I get both sides here. Not a good situation.

Obviously solution is to just find a house ldo
