actually not that much, you don't spend money if you don't lose, and I usually leave after I lose once or twice

so, like, 20$ maybe?

I play a ****LOAD on xbox live though

That's the first time I've ever had someone rage-quit IRL though, I did my best to hold back my laughter

So are you ranked? Do you play in big tournaments?
09-15-2012 , 04:03 PM
yeah I'm ranked, and I'm fairly famous in the Kansai area

I haven't gone to big tournaments because I haven't had the time, and even if I won I would have to go to Tokyo to play in a bigger tournament. Even if I win there I would have to fly to Las vegas, to compete for a measly 3,000$ first prize.

But I think I will participate in the the next big tourny, if I do really well I could get sponsorship

Ah, but it's a pretty good experience playing in that kind of final. I dunno how many people actually watch the SF4 things but I really enjoyed playing a couple of Starcraft finals in Korea. I'd probably have enjoyed it more if I wasn't a 19 year old kid who didn't know how to do anything except play Starcraft, but...

speaking of which, LOL

someone posted a video of me playing the number 1 guile on youtube two days ago

does it ever get boring playing the same game? I imagine you'll make a poker comparison but SF4 looks a lot less dynamic. I've never played, though, so I'm probably wrong.

I find that you get addicted to the competition or to slight, occasional improvements - if you are practicing properly. I never really learnt how to get that in poker though so I'm not sure how common that actually is.

eh? SF4 is wayyy more dynamic than poker. Poker is boring as ****, especially if you're just sticking with hold-em

There're 42 characters, each character takes literally years to master, and each character can be played a different way. Some characters have certain weaknesses to other characters, which is what makes this game way more interesting than say.. chess.

Also, whereas poker is like 90% reads and 10% math, SF4 is like 50% reads, 20% situation awareness (doing the right combo at the right time, etc) 20% input and 10% reaction time

And actually high level SF4 is very similar to poker in many aspects, right down to game theory being directly applicable to high level play

I guess I just don't really like fighting games. I had friends who played Super Smash Brothers like 5 hours a night and I never understood it. It just doesn't appeal to me.

re: poker being boring. I think it would be really boring if money wasn't involved. There are people who just love the game (see: Galfond on isildur) and I like the game but without the making money aspect I wouldn't care. That's probably one reason why I don't play HSNL.

poker is still boring, even with money involved

kil, how balanced is SF4? 42 characters must be tough for that...

one of the most balanced fighting games ever, really. It's quite amazing how they balance that many characters

Usually these kind of games have about 2-3 strong characters and the rest are ****

It's part of my personality too I suppose

I get focused on one thing and tend not to focus on anything else

I use abel, the worst match-ups are probably rufus/zangief and adon. I usually do well against shotos, Ryu, Ken, Guile, Sagat, Gouken, etc

+1+1, true statements.

Ended up going out for a drink with Kyle - and by drink I mean we met at a bar where his girlfriend worked so we proceeded to get completely hammered (definitely blacked out some phone calls I made later, whoops), and he wouldn't even let me pay my share, which means he's gotta come visit me in NYC sometime so I can return the favor. Was an excellent time.

Beginning of the night

After what I think was several rounds of drinks plus a multitude of fireball shots (?) and picklebacks

Also we both made the same (racist?) comment/meme when his friend showed up

Spoiler:
A Wild Orange Appears! butnaaaaah
