So I've been trying to get an apt (living with the legendary davistabuff) for quite some time. One of the apts we looked at and decided to apply for had the biggest douche ever as the landlord. Some background: we have been offering to pay the entire year's rent up front as we have no legit income and many landlords don't want that for some idiotic reason.

Anyway, this clown decides he wants to interview us for whatever reason. We figure he will just ask us for financial info and stuff, but he ends up talking to buff for 90 min about poker and what he wants to do with his life, etc. He then talks to me for 20-30 min or so the next day and asks me directly multiple political questions when I mentioned my travels and stuff (what should Obama do about Iran? etc.).

After my interview (Friday) I give him the $100 app fee and he says he will let us know Monday. Monday goes by and we don't hear a peep and he ignores our broker's phone calls. Today we found out that he rented the apt to someone else.

I'm asking for suggestions as to the best way to get back at this guy. We have his name and could spam it plus bad words all over the Internet so whenever a prospective tenant looks up his company they will see it. Other ideas? Not sure if it came across clearly but this guy is just a massive ******* in about every possible way.

Seems like a douche...

Don't rent the apartment and move on?

I would have interrupted his ******ed interview and asked what bearing it had on being a good tenant

we are pretty desperate or I would have--most places here in NYC are too suspicious of someone paying all the rent up front (this is the only explanation I can think of) which makes it really difficult

I assume you are providing tax records/bank account statements/etc, right?

Bank statements yes, but tax records are so small as to be irrelevant.

Again, we are paying everything up front, so why should this matter?

also wtf at a $100 app fee? is that standard? it isn't where i live.

Ran at 28/22 with 9% 3bet today over 2.5k hands. WTSD 30%, W$SD of....(drum roll)...37%. Despite running like ass I still managed to make 5 BI's.

Quick Check Up: Villain is a 50/5 loose passive calling station who's not folding two pair, set, and possibly not top pair. c/f river or shove? I figured I have a crazy image and the pots big so I'll shove for thin value. Thoughts? I do wish there weren't 2 different 4 card straights lol:

1-2 nl, effective stacks are ~$260

PF: Villain raises to $4 from CO, Hero raises to $16 from SB with TT, Villain calls

Flop Pot $34
6 8 T
Hero bets $30, Villain calls

Turn Pot $94
6 8 T Q
Hero bets $75, Villain calls

River Pot $244
6 8 T Q 9
Hero shoves for $160...

super standard in US. it's usually non-refundable too.

But I'm not bluffing in my hand...cool gif though
08-28-2012 , 09:52 PM
the gif was in reference to you managing to win 5 buyins on a day you go to SD 30% and only win at SD 37% (bolded). that's a guaranteed -10 buyin or more day for me

that is complete BS. you could end up paying thousands before you even get a place. cant imagine putting up with that.

it might be different in NYC or for poor people but usually you just tour the different properties, pick your favorite and then apply to just that one. it's not like college apps where you send apps to lots of different places

i'm rusty, but doesn't villain only call w better hands and fold worse? i dunno. i saw your read, but i don't agree that all 50/5's would call the same range on the river

Still think the correct response is to find a nice shade of poo, and smear it all over his office. He will come to work and be devastated.

Might bring some legitimacy to your method of payment.

I have records from 09 (that i gave them), but behind because of BF. Was going to file late in 2011 and had a lot of money frozen online and obv last year a basically made nothing.

Also, we were looking in Midtown or LES, now maybe Morningside/Central Park North maybe? Stark has a high aversion toward Brooklyn, so pretty much anywhere but there is fair game.

it's for a credit check and lol at that dude ever giving it back...maybe you just run hot? everyone I've talked to thinks that is totally standard

the market is the worst it probably ever has been to try to rent in so that's part of the reason we are having so much trouble

on another note, never eating Indian food again, UGH
08-29-2012 , 03:34 AM
for our appartment we had to show some proof of income and write motivation letters assuring that we did earn more than him. Never ever heard of that 100 dollar fee here though
08-29-2012 , 03:45 AM
indian food is amazing
08-29-2012 , 11:15 AM
I'm having similar trouble searching for apartments too. **** is the worst. i got a job working downtown columbus and the market is so competitive and pickings so slim that im not confident ill find a place before my start date. how are there no companies that specialize in finding apts for people? i swear id pay a few hundred just to have the confidence in knowing the place i got was nice and well vetted while also not having to go through the ordeal of searching and calling/emailing a million different landlords. but right now id just settle for people responding to my inquiries.
08-29-2012 , 11:22 AM
yeah I bet in a big city it's even worse than here, but we had issues to with people who weren't liking the fact we were students. Even when you explained them that you probably make more than they do they still weren't convinced that it'd be a good idea. Hated the searching part :s
