I dont really understand why do u check raise the turn. I think facing the turn betting or C/C is much better. You are not gonna get paid by worse hands and you want to reach the showdown without making a big pot.

Re: A5 screwed me.100nl

well I thought I had a read on this player that he was weak....I had been raising his blinds all night and he was down so i thought he was trying to give a little payback and steal my blind..I honestly thought I had the best hand on the turn.. I know my kicker was weak so I was trying to take the pot down. when he called I realized my read was wrong and he was quite strong... so I gave up

Re: A5 screwed me.100nl

Turn raise makes zero sense. You think you are ahead, then bet out -- the only hands calling a c/r are better than yours, or draws, and you should be betting out on the turn to charge draws instead of c/r them and having no idea where you're at when they call.

Now on the river you are getting 5-1 from a villain whose range includes both busted straight and flush draws. Uh, call? (Despite the fact that his bet sizing does look like thin value I am never folding here, I've seen rec players do this with zero-equity hands before, and because he's not full stacked I'm guessing he's a rec player).

BTW This isn't a tournament, so saying you are 'chip leader' is like saying you are ahead at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Re: A5 screwed me.100nl

lol at the buffet comment... i agree I definitely should have called the river bet, but I really just wanted to get advice on the turn... Next time ill lead out with a bet on the turn, if I did do that and he calls should I bet again on the river or check/call it down??

Re: A5 screwed me.100nl

You should start by thinking about villains hand. WHY does he check behind on the flop. With what hands does he check behind? What does that mean for my future actions.

Usually his range is something like "giving up"+"weak aces"+"made hands scared of the ace that want to pot control" [and I guess some draws that want to take the free card]
I'd say he's somewhat unlikely to start bluffing on the turn if you check to him if he didn't bluff flop so we should bet a size that gets called by hands like K8,99,77. I prefer betting both turn and river if he calls turn.
Betting also protects against draws.

Re: A5 screwed me.100nl

Thanks Clowntable.. thats good avice. btw he did show after the hand.. he had A5, the same hand as me. Like you said, him checking behind on the flop meant scared/weak Ace .. I cant believe I didnt call the river bet..I thought with that second 8 on the river my kicker was beat

Why would you check raise with what you assume to be the best hand, but always the worst hand when called?

Re: A5 screwed me.100nl

^^^ what reason do you want? Most of the time? If you think you have the best hand and villain will fire turn then c/r turn >>> cbetting since villain will lose a cbet and be puzzled by line which gives him a chance to spew a bit.

As played your c/r turn doesn't work if you plan to c/f river since it shows you don't understand his delayed cbet range and why you even decided to c/r turn in the first place.

Re: A5 screwed me.100nl

I just think "wanting to take down the pot" isn't a good reason to put in a raise when your opponent is either ahead or has less than 15% equity. also check raising the turn then thinking you're behind when called makes no sense. it would indicate we're bluffing and I can't see any better hands folding on the turn.

that being said I think it's reasonable to have both a c/r turn, bet river and a bet turn, bet river range and where A5 fits in depends on your opponent's tendencies and some other, less important factors, like our image and perceived range for both lines.

I am never "wanting" to takle down the pot if I c/r here. Im trying to milk my cow as much as I can.

People all just go Enrique and wanna be the hero. This is poker life.
