First of all yes we can, but we don't HAVE to play 3bet pots OOP. We can save 3bet flatting when Hero has position.
Well you can defend 20% of button opens vs BB/SB 3bets.
You can flat: AA*(or 4bet) TT-77, AQ-AT, KQ-KT, QJ, AQs-A7s, A5s-A2s, KQs-K9s, QJs-Q9s, JTs-J9s, T9s-T8s, 98s-97s, 87s, 76s, 56s.
56s is probably borderline.
You can 4bet: JJ+ / TT versus some donks if you are sure that they are stacking off 99. If not don't. AK, AKs, A6s, A4s-A2s, K8s-K4s, Q8s, Q7s.
This is from application of NLHE, however I feel that some of the KJ KQ KT off-suite can be used as 4bet bluffs as well, however then the 4bet range would probably be too wide.
Thing is it's so much easier playing IP. Just had a hand which is sort of the perfect example:
Poker Stars $0.50/$1 No Limit Hold'em - 3 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter
BB: $100.00
Hero (BTN): $162.28
SB: $113.28
Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is BTN with 8
A
Hero raises to $2,
1 fold,
BB raises to $7, Hero calls $5
Flop: ($14.50) 5
4
A
(2 players)
BB bets $7.61, Hero calls $7.61
Turn: ($29.72) K
(2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks
River: ($29.72) 2
(2 players)
BB bets $15.60,
Hero raises to $49, BB calls $33.40
Final Pot: $127.72
BB mucks T
A
Hero shows 8
A
(a flush, Ace high)
Hero wins $126.22
(Rake: $1.50)
I have no idea how he snapped my off there, but the result and pot-size of this pot if you turn the tables/positions would probably be different.
People also make costly mistakes in 3bet pots cause the pots always are bigger and we should playing wider IP.
