Should I have shoved pre?
Is the 4bet range stat sufficently converged?

Re: 100NL - How not to 5bet?

I'd just jam preflop, I might do the min5b sometimes but with a very polarised range and with no less than KK+ for the value part. TT is just too vulnerable, he's getting 1 to 4 on a call preflop with position, he might just call with KJ here and that's not good for us.

I don't think I would fold when we get to the flop, I would expect him to jam JJ+ ,AK preflop. I think I would probably check/jam the flop, I expect him to check back JJ-KK if he somehow have one of these. So I think when he bets the flop his range is some crap that he called preflop due to your min5bet and some Ax.

I don't think check/calling is a good idea because we allow him to realise his equity and we have no idea if he's going to bluff the turn.

2.5x open and 105bb deep this createa a scenario where 5betting becomes very expensive for you (and harder to balance). I mean, He makes it 17bb, now you have to shove another 87bb on top, which isn't all fun to do with bluffs and more marginal hands (like TT or AQ for example).

Re: 100NL - How not to 5bet?

Btw I'd like to add I had no 4bet history with villain (yes the hands are mined lynch me ). I had 3bet the crap out of him this session from a combination of his high steal/F3b and picking up lots of premiums and all he'd done was fold all day.

The only reason I'm 5betting light is because of his large 4Bet range stat. Is this reason enough?

is 5% a large 4b stat? I don't think you can read much into that.

And minnish 5b oop with TT doesnt seem too good.

5% = {88+,AJs+,KQs,AKo}

But ye I made the min 5bet for Nirwanda's reason of the price set for shoving being bad. I think when OOP I'll just bite the bullet and shove though to avoid awkward flops.

So the stat is actually his range, and not frequency? I've never seen that before.

Are you sure that stat is actually range?

And if it is, is that adjusted for position?

I mean, if he's opening 20% and his 4b range is 5% that means he's 4b 25% of the time which is absurd.

What's his fold to 3b stat?

Edit: even if his range is 5% how can u just assume its the top 5%? This whole thing doesn't make sense to me.

Re: 100NL - How not to 5bet?

Just make is 37-38 and call shove. Making it this small is going to get a call from all his hands. I wouldn't shove 4 bet because sometimes you are gonna 4 bet as a bluff. I highly doubt you are ever going to shove 4 bet as a bluff.

a 4.8 4bet range is ridiculously high and you have more than enough of a sample. It's not just 4.8% of hands. It doesn't have anything to do with percent of hands in pokerstove afaik.

Well ****, that's what I'd been using it as.

It didn't seem "right" though, so I eventually just started assigning less value to it. Any idea what it actually means?

Re: 100NL - How not to 5bet?

And I'd just jam pre...although it's admittedly a little awkward w/ his sizing/stacks/etc.

I much prefer 5-betting small when either: a) we're in position or b) we're more nutted (like KK+) so less flops are "bad" for us.

I quit trying to figure out what it meant a long time ago. Now I just know roughly what is normal (~2.0-2.4), low (<1.9), and high (2.4+). Or something.

It looks like HM2 uses a different formula now so those guidelines probably aren't accurate anymore.

Quote:
It used to be calculated 4bet% x PFR, while now it is 4bet% x raise first %, the new way is more accurate as PFR is much lower than raise first in%.

Re: 100NL - How not to 5bet?

That 4bet range is ridic high, I rarely see people with 3,8+ where I play.

Add to that the fact that you've been bullying him around recently, so I wouldn't be surprised if he 4b/calls with worse here.

Either way, you have a s*it(!!!) ton of fold equity with these dynamics.

That being said, a min5b is obviously pretty bad.

Re: 100NL - How not to 5bet?

Heh ^^ yeah same here, I really have no f*cking clue what 4bet range really means, but I do use it in my HUD and I know which numbers are spew and which numbers are nit.
