let's say i'm in a pot with a reg and a whale and the whale has the initiative or a likely decent hand. i'm first to act, reg is second, whale is third. does anyone ever bet, even if the bet is a slight loser, just because it puts the reg in a bad spot? it's almost to my benefit to really screw over the reg even if it slightly hurts me, because it's good for me when the whale wins and bad for me when the reg wins

You should be just making the best decisions you can in the moment that equate to more $$$ your way obviously and this is just setting money on fire if you're committing money to a pot that you know you can never win.

The whale will give his money away to everyone at the table so not sure why you think it benefits you more than anyone else for the whale to win, especially if you invest more of your own money to ensure his win.

you can't make massively -ev bets like this, but i suspect you could make just slightly -ev bets in vacuum, as you will benefit from being deeper than the reg with the whales, from annoying the reg and possibly making him quit, and from the more aggro image you will develop
