Small stakes PLO tourneys - can be profitable in the long run? Small stakes PLO tourneys - can be profitable in the long run?

Hey guys, first post here

1 - I've been playing PLOZ5 and PLOZ10 for the last 2-3 months with some slight profit, but basically breaking even. For the last 2 weeks I've transitioned to playing only PLO MTTs (cheaper Omanias, PLO KO tourneys up until the 27$ bi level) and so far I'm running much better than I expected, the cheap MTT PLO pool seems much much fishier than the PLOZ5-10 pool. I final tabled some tourneys and making around 35% ITM at the moment, but making ITM on above average stack seems really easy. Maybe I'm just running good but this seems much more beatable than the PLOZ 5-10 in the long run.

So my question is: are cheaper PLO tourneys generally considered soft / beatable in the long run?

2 - I'm playing on Stars now, just regged on Party bc saw they have some 5$ rebuy PLO tourneys too. Any other tip for sites with good PLO tourney selection / frequency? OFC Stars selection cannot be beaten but I'm always open for having some bankroll on more sites.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, PLO tournaments are softer than cash and are definitely beatable in the long run. There is a lot of variance but there are also a ton of whales shoving/calling down with any piece of the flop especially on party in my experience. Lots of people have gotten it all in with me with just a gutshot or non-nut FD fairly deep on the party MTT's.

If you're transitioning from cash there's quite a few adjustments preflop and post-flop you have to make due to the short-stack dynamic. If you have a strong background in PLO cash you will usually do well in PLO tournament structures, just keep in mind that stack sizes and ICM come into play.

you shouldnt play PLO MTTs up to $27 buy in if you can not beat PLO5z/PLO10z
they are soft dunno if they are softer

I think $27 tourneys might be more beatable than 5 or 10zoom is due to rake concerns. That said you probably need to show a winrate at those cash stakes to have a good reason to play the tourney, I suppose.

So summing up I'm actually not sure what the **** the point of my post here is, because it says nothing

Probably accurate. Some days I'm not even sure if I'm being legit or just levelling micro players.

I'd be also interested in this. Currently reading Hwang's books, but those are not for tourneys.

There are some good videos on Run It Once from Phil Galfond where he goes over the dynamics of PLO MTTs vs cash.

Cliff notes of what I've seen covered and from my own experience in PLO MTTs:

The fields are super soft so you want to minimize your variance in your pf3betting range as well as your bet/get it in range on the flop. You should polarize your ranges more but size all bets down compared to cash games.

Hope that helps.
