2/2 live, 9 player

utg = $500 TAG
co (Hero) = $400 6 7 8 8

preflop:
utg pots to $8, mp/hj/hero/bb calls

flop ($40): 2 2 8
checked to hero who bets $15, bb folds, utg raises to $45, mp/hj folds, hero calls

I'm trying to make it look like I'm taking a stab at an abandoned pot.

villain is check raising into 3 people. i put him on a 2 for trips, and maybe even 2AAx for nut flush draw.

turn ($130): 5
utg pots, hero goes all in, utg folds

Spoiler:
villain shows a 2

doh! in my experience, whenever someone pots, they're going to call an all-in if it's not much more $.

is my play correct and i just mis-read the villain?
what would you have done?

in this case i think im calling ott, you are nut and if you raise ott you are at least rapresenting 28xx, if you just call you can rapresent a trips( i dont think you are calling the turn without at least a trips) and maybe he will catch a lower fh otr and bet, anyway i dont see advantage raising ott.

I think jamming on the turn is ideal, especially when he leads into you so big. (obviously it wasn't ideal in this exact situation, but in general) Large pot size raises are often an indication that people are just going to go with the hand. We really don't want to see a river card like a diamond if he has A2xx with no diamonds etc. which just kills our action. Played fine imo.

The CR could be a 2 or it could just be him trying to steal the pot right back from you. The pot lead out on the turn feels like he's trying to blast you off the hand. Yes, this might be how he plays low trips, but it still seems odd.

In regards to the flush hitting on the river, if he indeed has a 2, there are only 8 diamonds left in the deck (we burn one) and he has 3 other cards which could potentially burn 3 more diamonds, leaving only 5 potential river cards that might kill our action.

If a player has decided to take a bluffy line, is blasting away with a 2 or has decided to play a semi bluff this strong, the last thing I want to do is remove his ability to put more money in the pot. If he is bluffing, or only has a flush draw, we drive him out of the hand with any raise, as it just doesn't make sense to continue on with air.

I call the turn and let him fire away on the river.
