What topics do people talk about? Do they help improve your game?
In most Skype groups I've been its just been about posting hands and giving comments. Currently in three groups, one is a massive Skype group with mainly microstakes players - but there is too much chatter going on and I'm not really convinced the feedback I'd get for the hands is of great quality as I don't know almost any of the participants.
The second one is a great Skype group, we fairly often review a video a member and have some chatting in the Skype. Just 4 members, which I think is a plus as I know them all. It also helps me more, as the other members play PLO50 full-time. This has definitely helped my game, and its also nice to talk to fellow players. Its in Finnish, so probably of little interest to most posters here.
The third one is a coached group, we meet on Skype twice a week and go through concepts. The small/mid-stakes player who runs it takes a fee, but I think its well worth it. We also get homework relevant to the weeks topic which forces me to improve between sessions. I'd say this is probably improving my game the most, not just the coaching but also having to put the work between sessions and trying to remove mistakes from my game.
