I'm pretty sure they can see what processes you are running and I guess through that they can see what websites you visit? Either way, one sure fire ****ing way to alert them of your use of PTR is brag about your winrate in the chatbox.
Now that I think of it, I saw one of the poker stars staff post about this in a internet thread recently. He said they have the ability to monitor the websites that players visit, but that they were not going to do it anymore because players were outraged about it. He said they were working to try to find a way to stop pokertableratings by eliminating the ability for them to collect hands.
EDIT: I also never said I use PTR in the chatbox or anywhere else for that matter, and again I do not brag about winrates in chatbox. I play 3k hands a day on stars, and no one else will be able to tell you of any instance where I have done so. In fact when people tell me I suck or say something else negative, I just agree with them 95% of the time, because that is the best way to get them to be quiet, and end the convo so I can focus on poker. These were very extreme circumstances, and I did not do it to brag, it was an effort to end the hour long convo about how bad I suck.
