Curious about which network would be best to play at? Pokerstars has a lot of traffic but is Merge (specifically RPM) any good to play on? I have RB there but at least at Stars I know I'll get games no problem. Ideas?

Depends on what level you play at. Up to 50 and even 100 (depending on your winrate), European networks with high RB are good, especially Ipoker, micro and ongame.

Merge doesn't have much traffic from my experience and the games are tougher at the more serious stakes (100+) from what I've seen. I haven't played on entraction but it's similar to merge from what Ive heard.

You'll be raking in an insane amount of bbs/100 at lower stakes, so it'll take a much longer amount of time to move up with low RB. You shouldn't play with less than 55% at 25 and lower, IMO, it's kind of a waste of effort.

Don't lock yourself into merge or stars, it's not hard to find decent RB at other networks if you look for it.

curious if people do think the micros are beatable....

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...&postcount=189

i personally am paying 21bb/100 in rake (although only over 12k hand sample.. but still!)

is it even worth playing plo5?

If you can afford it, start at PLO25. If taking a shot with 200$ and going busto isn't a big deal for you, def do that.

unfortunately I can not... I got a free starting bankroll in 2009 and have never deposited my own money, and this is my nlhe career i think theres some hands from a couple small sites missing, but between bonuses, rakeback, promotions just went broke off that in january

i got a stake for plo5 because i live off about 200 euros a month, so can't afford to deposit....

so what would you reccomend? grinding plo5, or is it really basically unbeatable and i should play nlhe or something else until i can take shots at plo25+

Just wondering what people think about dealing with short stacking opponents.

Currently I am enjoying the first book by Hwang on the big play strategy, sort of the opposite of short stacking. Sometimes it is quite annoying to sit at a 6-max $10 or $25 table with a full stack, one other opponent with a full stack and four short stackers. Since the full-stacked opponent is often the most solid player on the table, I begin to feel almost obliged to short-stack myself since I have a comparatively small or no edge against the full stack but do risk my entire buy-in. However, this is not the way I want to play.

In the Guide to Small Stakes PLO on the forum I found a reference to William Jockusch's "Pot-Limit Omaha: Understanding Winning Play". Perhaps I should also have a look at that.

Short stack at micros must be -EV, thus a good player wouldn't do it. Reason: rakekill

I personally don't mind short stackers, because they make table dynamics more interesting.

Everyone has a freedom to choose their own stack size in the limits of table bin options. No one has anything to say about that, period. If you feel like it, then by all means. People play differently, most of the time very badly, vs. short stacks so it can be profitable.

An another perspective is that you should learn full stack game also (you triple up on your ss table etc). How about dropping limits a bit? You can play plo2/4 or whatever micro stakes your site offers. Then you don't need fear that much about losing your stack and you also don't need to pay that much for you full stacking "education".

Mmm... I think I should be entitled to prescribe the buy-ins of my opponents

Seriously, of course you are right, but I was posting because I sometimes don't know how to deal appropriately with short stackers (probably I am one of those people that you mention...), particularly when there are many of them and it becomes a pre-flop all-in game. I intend to learn playing full-stacked and the 0.10/0.25 micro level is quite all right for me, way below 2/4.

Aside, I feel that playing full-ring really helps when learning. Sure, it is a bit slower but that gives me time to think, watch and avoid marginal spots.

kk

By plo2/4 I meant plo 0.01/0.02 and plo 0.02/0.04. But plo25 sounds good, because there some people can actually play and that way you learn way better and faster. Gl.

change table. simple. no one should enjoy playing at a table with 4 shortstacks, not even the shortstacks themselves (if they are decent at it..)

That's nearly impossible to answer w/o knowing action, board texture, potsize, number of players, aggression of said fish... If u can create a credible "vacuum" scenario, I'll be happy to try and draw the line for a calling range.

Wouldn't even try tbh, much more useful to post a HH and people can break the range down for you. You gotto do it for every hand anyways while playing, good routine through work ethic is crucial.

+ 1
in a high rake environment with bad players, you won't need to table select to find bad players as they are everywhere. but you absolutely need to avoid tables with 4 shorties.

What sort of winrate in $ would you expect a decent plo100 player to earn per week if 4tabling for roughly 40 hrs per week.

Also would that player be better off playing on another site other than stars with higher rakeback?

You mean expected monthly income?

300 hands per hour on euro networks, 240 on Stars. About 170 hours montly so 40800 or 51000 hands. With a winrate of 5bb/100, which is quite decent, you would get something between 2040 $ and 2550 $ + rakeback.

Where you want to play is up to you. Stars has the best software and tables running 24/7, but it's a nitfest. Euro nets have better rb's and funnier games, but worse softwares and less traffic.

e: also no one can play that many hours without going insane

What is the best site for beginnign players that are winning players in mid-high stakes HU NL. Is there a book or video series that explains in debt the strength of differnet starting hands, hwo they differ by position and also how differnet hands equities are on diffenret board textures.

You can try

“The Pot-Limit Omaha Book: Transitioning from NLHE to PLO” by Slowhabit

“Pot-Limit Omaha Poker: The Big Play Strategy” by Jeff Hwang

The first book is more advanced. The second book is more for true beginners to Omaha hands and draws etc.

you get more hands/hour/table on euro network than on stars???
stars software is way faster and nittier so more hands/hr... no?

no because so many regs 24 tabling slows things down

if you have 3 broadway and a dangler, is it always a raise if it gets to you?

what about AQ108 ds? would something like that be a mandatory 3 bet?

First depends on position, suits, stakes and opponents, narrow it down a little.

Second is a 3bet 99%, u should only avoid it vs nits raising 5% or less, pay attention to positional stats.

With a 1000 dollar roll, what would you prefer rakewise playing on pokerstars?

moving up on plo hu sngs, or 6-max ?

Equally good at both.

Plo20-25 on euro sites with a good rake back and it's not even close.
