New to Omaha. Normal variance or extremely unlucky? New to Omaha. Normal variance or extremely unlucky?

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to this forum. My name is Jesse. I am a gambler at heart, and all though Hold Em can be fun, the big pots in Omaha is what attracted me to the game. I just played for 3 straight days losing 5K total. I know variance is a part of the game, but I have been running really bad on the river. Is this normal or am I just getting unlucky. I lost 5k, but the total pots I lost with way the best of it total over 10k. Here is a breakdown of the hands.

I have 89TJ
Opponent: AAK4
Flop: TTJ...5...A
First $500 gone

I have JJ78
Opponent AH2H78

Flop JH5D6C...9H...3H

I turned the nut straight with the top set. All in on the turn again, cost me my stack of $800

I have 4c5d6c7d
Opponent has Jc8cAd2c

Flop 3c 5h 7c...9d..10H

We go all in on the flop..my opponent was on tilt from a previous hand. Total pot is over $1300. Another stack gone

I have QQ24
Opponent has 6623

Flop Q62...3...6

Stack gone

This was probably the biggest hand of the night that killed me. I actually go so frustrated and ripped the cards and left.

I have QcKcTdJh

Opponent has TTQ4

Flop 8d9cJc....8c...8h

We go all in on the flop..I have the redraw to the flush and he ends up back dooring a full house. This cost me my stack again. Are these hands "part of poker" or is this extremely unlucky? It makes me want to quit forever. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Jesse

These hands from what little information you have given look fine/ standard but looks like you got the bad end of the stick for sure, some pretty sick run outs for you.

is this online or live?
If you lost 5k in a few days as a brand new PLO player you are probably playing way higher than your skill level should allow but you should know that :P So answer is probably less variance more mistakes in your sample. Though variance is very high in PLO

I understand what you;re saying, but I'm asking in reference to the hands that I've mentioned. Are those hands normal or extremely unlucky?

A little of column a a little of column b. You should include seat position and pre flop action with your post., the qq 24 hand maybe should have been a fold pre flop.

Bottom two hands are definitely less common.

Variance in PLO is killer. You gotta have the roll to withstand the swings at your level, but seeing as you lost 5k and are still here you're probably rolled for it.

It's pretty uncommon to go a day 1k hands without getting rivered by a 3 outter by some fish. That said, just ran your hands through the equity calculator and confirm you are getting it in good. That's all you can control. The rest is left to variance.

In PLO it is normal to get extremely unlucky.

i've seen grown men bend the cards into little squares and shove them in their mouths...

you've just run extremely bad. i'm still trying to gauge whether the effects of bad beats from live play trump online play.

when you multitable online and get a bad run it can feel like a series of rabbit punches to the head, whereas with live play I imagine you just get a nice kick in the balls feeling and you get to simply stew in your seat and wait for the next hand to get dealt from your sweet 20 hands per hour.

Running bad live is much, much worse. Takes forever waiting to get another hand to try to get unstuck and you have to watch some smug ****** talk about how he had to get it in with a dry gutshot while he stacks your chips.

You impling it's bad to get it in with dry gutshots?

Think about when you can be smug after and needle them when you hit it

Running bad. I tend to find that when i am getting it all in on the flop and turn in Omaha that I am getting beat with weird 1-3 outers rather than playing more pot control and having $$ to bet the "true nuts" on the river.

Didnt read all the hands but if your buyins are 800 dollars a 5K downswing will happen at some point.
