How to calculate pot size for raises? How to calculate pot size for raises?

In pot limit games, I can't seem to grasp where the "pot" size raise is calculated. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me with regards to the math, hopefully with a sample or two.

For example, let's say the blinds are $2/4, and you're the first one entering the pot. A pot sized raise would be $14, but where does the number $14 come from? There's only $6 in the pot, and another big blind on top of that would be $10 total. So why wouldn't a pot sized raise be $10? I just don't see the math that leads to the number 14.

Help!

before you raise the pot, they take into account the amount you would have to call so

BB posts 4

Hero calls 4 (pot now 10$) and raises what is now the pot on top of that (so 10$ more to 14$)

some beef calls 14$

now villain raises the pot, so he calls the 14$ which makes the total pot now 2+4+14+14+14=48$. that means he can raises 48$ above the 14$ to 62$ total

Ahh, taking the call prior to the raise into account is what I was missing in trying to figure it out. That makes a lot more sense, thanks!
