once you get a reasonable guesses of how their range looks like, from that point putting effort (many hours) in form of trying to write down more accurate range is very likely a waste of time, at least for me. if you do these kind of exercises, you will write down some ranges anyway and you will naturally improve in better range guess because in meantime you are playing hands and getting more experience.
I rate this activity as one of the least helping to improve in game, because i have done this and other very similar exercises for many months and i seen no results. I went from -4bb/100 to 8.2bb/100 at plo50 by switching to much more intuitive approach to the game, not doing any very heavy studies like these and try to play my hands based on pure logic building with little math involved.
