I've run into this a couple times recently and have been unsure of my play. Here is the most recent example.

No stats but opponent seemed reggish.

6max $.25/$.5 PLO 2 players

BUT opens $.75, I 3bet to$2.25 with A5AJ, BUT calls

Pot: $4.50

Flop: 26Q

I Bet $3.19, BUT calls

Pot: $10.28 Effective Stack: $20.93

TURN: 26QQ

What's our best play here?

You can continue to have some EV by betting this turn but the flop texture is dry enough that that only hands that make this turn are most Qxxx, KK+, worse FD & some floats, so turn is close, depending on the player.

I call.

Pot: $22

River: 26QQ7

I check, opponent bets $14 allin. This is the spot that has me struggling. Without strong reads or relevant stats, how should we deal with river spots like this. Just fold often and protect our checking range with some Q+? Or do we need to be calling AA here.

Check/decide both turn and river. Mostly you should call turn but fold river. On river vs a bet, your opponent simply has a queen a lot. You really need a reason to call. Random/unknown opponents simply don't bluff enough for a call to overcome the obvious valuebets everyone makes.

Thanks McNasty. That's been my default but I feel a little gross folding the river everytime the flush doesn't come in. I feel like my hand is pretty face-up but your points about bluffing enough make sense. Sorry if this was an overly noobish question. I played NL for 5 years and am still pretty new to PLO.

I support c/rai the turn. Then again, when its HU its very dynamic dependent on what you do here. Against trips you have 25% and by cking back OTT you induce some bluffings.
As played i fold river

hm, if you want him to fold all close to 0% bluffs and make sure to gii behind, c/rai turn is the way to go!
