Best PLO books out there? Best PLO books out there?

I'm relatively new to PLO, although have played quite a few thousand hands at both heads up and 6 max with success at PLO 100 and below.

I've looked around and the books by Jeff Hwang appear to be some of the most recent and most talked about books. Should I start with any in particular and are there any other books out there I should buy?

Thanks

If you're Scarer on pokerstars I don't think you're going to enjoy Hwangs books.

I shouldn't really speak as I've only read a part of his full ring live PLO book. That book obviously advised readers to play a ridiculously nitty and boring style. His other books may well be more suited to current online 6 max games though.

From my small experience playing with you when rebuilding you were hardly a nit.

Books is by far the worst way to learn plo and also there arent a ton of good ones out there. But if u absolutely have to read one read Big Play Strategy from Hwang. This is more to learn the basics. I think hwang is a huge nit and advises u to be a huge nit too so you cant really play his style imho. Just takes a lot of fun out of the game.

Forget about books.
Signup on a coachingsite, play some hands, post interesting spots, play some more hands and learn from your mistakes

I also recommend you to watch videos instead. There are a lot of good PLO videos out there and the information on videos is probably newer than in books. Besides, watching videos is fun and books are so 1950, right? :Q

I read this about a month ago, before I started playing PLO. It was kinda useful for going through certain hands where you want to avoid getting it in really bad.

In practise, in short-handed online games, though, it's only really covering a very small part of the game, because those situations just don't seem to come around that often. And you can't just keep folding pre until you pick up a hand like T987ds. The book is more useful for loose, full ring games, and I think it was written from this perspective.

So, I'd say, it's helpful for learning to avoid some infrequent, but potentially costly mistakes (especially if you play deep), but doesn't address the more common situations you face nearly every time you see a flop.

Make sure to pay back your debt before you start buying plo books

There's a fantastic ebook called "PLO from scratch" which was available for free from donkr.com last time I checked. It's one of the best poker books I ever read.

I also reccommend "Easy Game" by BalugaWhale. It's not particularly about PLO, but it's not particular to NLH either: it's just about the most important fundamental ways of thinking about poker, and it's the best poker book I ever read.

given youre new id do exactly the opposite and start w/ his books. you may know poker, but lack fundamentals and hwang highly stresses and shows fundamentals. the first book will be incredibly boring as its more geared towards full ring games, but its needed to read as it underlies his 2nd and 3rd books, along w/ the workbook. work along his lines until youre comfortable w/ the plo aspects of plo, then you can branch out and work on poker

Phil Gordon's Little Gold Book has a great PLO section. Phil Galfond coached Gordon and it can clearly be seen in this material.

Scroll down to the PLO section. Very solid fundamentals for a beginner.

I agree that videos and coaching are much better than books in terms of learning. It's not a bad idea to just sit and watch some of the high stakes games that run on stars. I personally learn a lot from doing this.

Phil Gordon wrote the book Little Gold Book with the help of Anders Taylor, Phil Galfond, Annette Obrestad, Daniel Cates, and Austin Schaff. But still videos are the way to go. I can't comment on the book itself because I don't read PH books, but from the reviews I heard, they were actually positive.

There are also two good books where you can lern something interesting from.

One is from Tri Nguyen called 'Transition from NLH to PLO'. It's a short one with about 100sides to read and a compendium of all aspectes with interesting insides.

The other one is from Rolf Slotboom called 'Secrets of Professional PLO' and has a tone of material.
FIRST the hand exampels are made from different posiotions with different stakes-sizes.
SECOND some really taff insides into a pro's head about playing-style.
And LAST $200/$400 Games from FullTilt vs other pro's like Esfaniari, Ivy etc.

for me it was helpfull. i hope it will do for others too :4
