Also, as a more general question, how often do you check/call the flop when playing HU? What kind of hands would you check/call on a typical Q94 board with a flush draw?
Finally, how do you balance your betting/checking ranges on low paired boards with the betting lead in HU and 3-way pots? Against an intelligent, reasonably aggressive player, how often will you C-bet a 944r board with air? How often will you bet it with JJ? With AA?
Hmm passive players are frustrating HU. I guess most of what you say is right, plus i tend to 2/3 barrel them more through the streets. I may alter the size of my bets on the flop in 3 bet pots, because you are just as likely to win with a C bet on the flop for 50-60% of the pot, as you are for the full pot against passive players.
Assuming i’m 100bb deep the weakest hands i’m probably going to check call with are JQKx, TKKx, Q4xx, Q9 (no improvement). Its also very player dependant. Some players i’ll check raise Q9xx, others i’ll just call.
In a HU pot, if i’m the preflop raiser with position, if i have JJ-AA (with no 4) on the 944 rainbow flop, i’ll often just check behind. It’s just too tricky when you get check raised. If they check again on the turn i’ll probably make a bet then, if they raise and i decide they are bluffing (which players do alot more on the turn after you have checked the flop and shown weakness), its less expensive to call them down.
