I was playing a live game recently and someone said you were staked by badbeat.com. I was wondering if this is true and if it is why you prefer to be staked rather than play your own money?

Ben sick results and thanks for doing this. My cousin in Essex who plays live PLO tells me that the recent influx of wealthy Russians in the UK has brought some massive live games have you been apart of any of these as they run 100/200 all the way to 5K/10K depending on who's in I have heard.

when strong NL players make the switch to PLO, once they reach some level of competency past the most obvious things like relearning preflop starting hand strengths and mostly only drawing to nuts, what do you think are some common mistakes they still tend to make?

What's your opinion (if you have one) on Sam Trickett and Pete Linton? Do you think it was inevitable that Sam would go broke, even if no-one was expecting it to happen earlier in his career? Do you think that if he has enough talent, it's better for this to have happened earlier rather than later?

What's your opinion on Tony Phillips? Complete d1ckbag?

Are you friends with the warwick crew? What's happened to them over the last year and a bit, I haven't heard news of any of them.

Describe some of the things you'd do to Liv Boeree.

If you went to the Victoria casino and wanted to start a big game 50-100+ do you think you would get any action?

Try and set yourself a target to win over 60% of hands in the majority of your Heads Up matches....

When you have an extremely loose aggressive image, you have to make big value bets with marginal holdings.

Stop when you go three buy ins behind. Its tough to come back from that spot, your often tilted, your opponent will often quit you if you double up anyway, but you may lose a load more buy ins before that happens.

It feels different yeh. I could be on tilt and put $10000 into a spot when i know its a horrible spot. Whereas if i spent $10000 on a night out, i'd think it was ridiculous

Beyond the obvious (C-bet air less, bet weak draws more, lead flop more OOP in non 3-bet pots), do you have any advice for beating passive players HU? How does your 3-betting frequency change against an opponent who's passive postflop and how does your flop play change in 3-bet pots?

Also, as a more general question, how often do you check/call the flop when playing HU? What kind of hands would you check/call on a typical Q94 board with a flush draw?

Finally, how do you balance your betting/checking ranges on low paired boards with the betting lead in HU and 3-way pots? Against an intelligent, reasonably aggressive player, how often will you C-bet a 944r board with air? How often will you bet it with JJ? With AA?

I'm just going to say mad respect for doing this, and congrats on the respect you have for other high stakes pro's to comment in here with genuine questions instead of a bunch of railrads.
ALthough Brian shouldve been a little more technical (imo) from his post.

GL!

hey ben,

just one question, did you have an 'aha!' moment when moving up stakes from 400-1000 plo up to 5k+ plo?

This is so good i had to join up.

Do you think omaha is more of a 'feel' game than holdem?
Ever had a downswing that made you seriously consider changing your playing style?
Who do you most respect outside of poker and why?
Do you think omaha players take too many leaks to holdem when they switch?

Mixture of good maths, gradually getting better at bankroll management, good reading of opponents, aggression, luck!

I try to tilt them and take them out of there comfort zone, by constantly 3/4 betting them preflop, hopefully this will then force them into making mistakes in big pots.

From now on I'll read the posts above me so I don't repeat the same questions.
Hopefully it will become the game of choice for most players. I can look at two 25/50 tables (one PLO and one NL), and there is often 3/4 very good players on the NL table, whereas thats rarely the case at PLO.

I'd love to see PLO 5 card. Its what i played in casino's for years, creates alot of action and is fun.

The good thing about PLO is that lots of people think they are very good at it, and aren't willing to learn. I hope it stays that way.

I defend my blind about 80-85%.... Whether they min raise or raise full pot doesn't really affect what i do, i'll three bet them approx 40% of the time anyway...

I think i ran pretty sick good against you. I think you were tilting and unleashing some buy ins to me, can't say if you are a fish until we play some more!

Players who limp the button and never raise pre works quite well against me especially when i'm stuck, but i normally quit them and won't play unless they raise preflop.

Also i guess players who increase the variance massively by 4 betting me alot, it just makes the average pot huge, and its more a case of who hits the flop alot.

According to my tracker i'm most up v IcallSoWhat, but not sure how much of this is from our HU battles, or ring games....

There needs to be more PLO live tournaments for a start. If there was a 3/4k Euro PLO tournament at every EPT event it would get at least 100 runners i'm sure. I also think more of it needs to be shown on TV. They should do a high stakes Omaha game on PAD or something...

I don't think its ever possible for it to catch up with NL Hold'em. Just taking all my uni friends for example, they could all play NL, but some wouldn't even know what Omaha is, yet alone be able to play it.

do you sports bet, or indulge in other gambling aside from poker for large sums of money? please can you say one large bet you have made if you have and your reasoning for the bet.

did you ever envisage you would reach the heights that you have? did you think you would be "rich" from playing poker when you first started beating the 2 5 £ game in your local casino?

and finally, if there was one person in the world you had to give a million £ to play the highest online PLO games (you keep profit and you don't have to know them personally), who would that person be?
Yeh when i play a player with a similar style the match ups are often sick. I've lost/won 10-20 buy ins to these players in a session. The chips fly in alot. A Queen Flush becomes the nuts in these match ups

I really don't sports bet at all, i would only get a buzz if i placed pretty big bets, and i don't want to get involved in that side of gambling. I did have a few grand on Man Utd to beat Celtic away a few weeks ago, my biggest bet ever, it was a draw and that tilted me!

Nah i never thought back then i'd end up playing such big stakes, i probably thought i would play £10/£20 games at some point but never £100/£200.

Hmmm thats a good one. I'd give my million pounds too Benyamine i guess. He's won about three times more than anyone at those stakes....

Don't play $250/$500 with a $300k bankroll
Don't play people at HU NL when they keep beating you

The advice i'd give, is that if you are beating a level and making money, don't rush moving up levels. Alot of people can make a huge amount of money playing $1/2 and $2/5. There is a kind of pressure to move up to higher stakes, and thats when loads of people go broke.
