I would love to read something on squeezing in PLO... OOP, shortstacked, deep stacked, etc etc

I've come to realize it's one of the parts of PLO I understand the least.

Btw, I like your website a lot (and your posts on here). Thanks for doing this.

Thank you And okay on the squeezing thing - I think it's hard to find the right balance for squeezing so it'd be a good topic to talk about.

Roy,

Written word is much, much more useful.

I may:
Highlight, copy-paste back and forth (creating to_think/learn_first lists and summaries), read it everythere (in train, at the table, when walking...), making quick memos, etc...

Thanks,

Old S

Blinds play can be hard. We should defend enough, but avoid playing too many weak'ish hands out of position. I find SB play particularly tricky.

Approximately, how wide would you 3B and flat in SB as a default when the BTN opens? Let's say BTN and BB are decent players, but neither is super-aggressive-or-tricky, and stacks are ~100 bb.

Can you give an example of a hand that's around the bottom of your 3B range for this spot. And one around the bottom of your calling range?

Do you think a 3B-or-fold approach from the SB is good for those SB-against-raiser-and-BB situations?

I'm posting this here now bc I wrote the response in another thread which got locked before I could submit. And I typed it all out on my phone so damned if I'm not posting it somewhere! It's in response to a Q about how to hand read:

First thing though you didn't think they were strong enough to raise? Every AA hand is strong enough to raise. If you're not raising the top 2.5% of hands, what are you raising?

I like to hand read using a process of elimination. You need to have some idea of what standard play is though for this to work.

A very basic example would be when a tight nitty player raises from UTG. You call from the BTN. The flop comes down 754r and he continuation bets. What hands can he have? Using a process of elimination, knowing he has a tight UTG range we realize that his most likely hand is going to be an overpair or over cards and he will rarely have two pair, a straight, or a set. We can now use this information to profitably bluff raise him on the flop with a wide range knowing that he will likely fold evem overpairs which are near the top of his range.

Yes sometimes he will have AA85 and we're sticking our foot in it, but the frequency with which he'll have a hand like that which hits the flop is extremely low in comparison to how frequently he will miss the flop.

That's hand reading.

You van practice by playing a game where you put your opponents on a likely hand or range for every pot - even those you aren't involved with. Then you can check how you're doing any time the hand gets to showdown. It takes a lot of practice and experience to be comfortable and confident in your hand reading abilities but there's really no other way to get there without putting in the volume and working at it.

I assume that hand reading question was direct towards me since you posted in one of my threads. Thanks a lot for that answer Roy. I guess it's really coming full circle for me that poker just might not be for me. I think I'll probably dedicate 3-4more months of hardcore time into it and if I don't see progression I'll just hang it up.

Some of my questions to you. I play on a site that doesn't allow huds and when hands go to showdown they aren't flipped over, is it still possible to start creating ranges and reads and things like that without huds? Let's say my knowledge of math is rather low and I'm a mouth breathing moron am I destined to fail?

If you had any advice out there how would I go about buckling down and putting as much effort into my game? I know that's a very vague question but I really don't know how to "Improve my game" I watch videos and read the forums but seeing as how I still get pounded when I play PLO feels like I'm not taking it in right. Should I be jotting things down with a pen and pad? Thanks for any advice u can sprinkle on me.

Horribleplay702, maybe you should just focus on having fun and getting better instead of grinding/winning money. Play max 4 tables, focus on handreading, reviewing sessions.Maybe even move down a stake. Treat it as a fun hobby like a computer game. Don't focus on results. Playing stress free is so much more fun.

Question:

Can you name a few situations where it's good to call a flopraise OOP vs our cbet 100bb deep in a single raised pot? These are difficult spots for me and I always feel lost on the turn. So I tend to just fold or reraise in those situations but I guess I must have some kind of calling range there.

Hey all,

Just wanted to post a quick update to say that i'm back to answering questions after my December SNE dash. I just uploaded volume 5 which answers some stuff about the mental side of poker. I intend to answer 1 a week from here on out.

Cheers,

Roy
