Hero UTG+1 $600- Late 20s playing pretty tight post flop at a short handed table (6 handed) Seeing a lot of flops with rest of table that does a lot of one raise everyone calls. Hero has not played a lot of live PLO. Rest of table probably picks up on this but the old lady.

Villain BTN $580- Old lady in her 60s maybe early 70s. I've only been at table for 30 minutes but she has been very tight. I haven't even seen a hand of hers at showdown yet.

Hero makes it $20 pre with JJ98, villain calls and one other guy calls.

Flop $63 Q104 Hero checks, Villain checks, BB checks.

Turn $63 4 Hero bets $50 Villain calls $50 BB folds

River $163 J Hero bets pot $163 and Villain snap pot shoves? Hero pretty much waits 5 seconds then calls.

Thoughts?

Only my 3rd time playing live and yes I realize I have the 3rd nuts here but I haven't seen too many river shoves w/ out the nights especially vs a villain like this. Sorry if this is very straight forward not much live exp would love to hear the thought process and i'll explain my thoughts.

I find it hard to believe that many villains here check when checked to after flopping a set 44, TT, QQ or even some 2p combos but that would be entirely read dependent as I've seen some live players do some whacky passive stuff.

Do you think this villain is capable of checking back some strong hands on the flop? Do you think villain is likely to value shove river with worse than J's full? (T's full, any combo of 4's full, straights etc.) I would ask the question whether villain can bluff shove river but based on your description I'm probably going to discount this.

Essentially you're worried about QQ and 44, so you have to decide whether villain can check-back the flop with those hands or not and what other parts of villains range are sticking it in here

Yeah to follow up on my earlier post I don't think you can ever fold here unless you have very specific reads on the villain. Against an unknown I go broke here with this hand.

Thanks, I feel like I called fairly quickly and my hand was was good. Just was curious because someone at the table made the comment that I slow rolled her. I didn't think it was that bad. Solar that's essentially what I told myself I couldn't see her not checking or raising turn with QQ or 44 and if she did well then good for her.

Yeah, especially in florida... going back one week this month and next month plan on playing a ton more

the hard part for people who play online is adapting to the glacial slow pace. get up and walk around frequently and don't play massively long sessions and you should do fine. or just stand behind your chair. ideally you'd like to continue observing the game while you stretch

and then the monthly long downswing over a 500 hand sample size starts

meh just find games where u can see 3 out of 4 of the cards of both players on either side of you and never lose

Live poker is literally a license to print money imo. Hence why I'm looking forward to cutting back my hands/year online and focussing on the live games which are super juicy atm.

also, you really don't want to talk to the people at your table at all, and you definitely don't want to give any credence to anything they say. I mean, if someone says something directly to you, you should respond, but it's best to remain silent, observant and thinking.
