I can't believe they started the coverage with the Day 2 start (specifically with Brandon Steven of all people wandering down the Rio hallway mumbling something generic) and bypassed the Day 1 excitement and the inevitable relaxed coffehousing when the tournament started 600bbs deep.

Typical of the production company doing the WSOP though (the company from the Moneymaker Era, 441 Productions, was replaced in 2011 by the current producers). Hours of all-ins and people calling for cards, very few characters and even less storytelling. There are plenty of culprits in why ESPN's coverage of the WSOP is beginning to wither away, but Poker PROductions is near the top of the list.

I don't mind the bet but I really don't think DN is squeezing pre with a KJ KQ JT kind of hand that he would be protecting here... plus - he's gonna possibly cold call with those hands for a 10% bet ott if he has six clean outs. He can't be getting a slight lol value from an under pocket pair because DN really doesn't have a small or med pocket pair as I think he's gonna flat with those pre as well. But like I said I think DN would likely call with those hands that deep in the tourney but maybe not...

His reasoning is that by betting the turn he hopes to get a really cheap showdown (which worked), and that by checking back the turn Daniel might bluff/value bet a wider range.

Agree close to 100%.

I find that Poker Productions WSOP coverage gives us a great final 27 where we get to see tons of hands, but we lose a lot of colour that we had from 2003-2010.

Watching Esfandiari dust off his cheap lead to busto without even a cash was just awkward and embarrassing.

Colman totally owned his soul, made a few huge shoves pre-flop and Antonio just lost his mind calling off every other shove for the rest of the night rofl.

I don't know if its the current poker environment and/or the production company but there doesn't seem to be many characters and funny confrontations like their used to be. I'm probably alone but I love exchanges like the video below with colorful personalities, but I guess you don't learn to develop much of a personality honing your skills on the internet.

Could definitely be the player pool and overall attitude at the event.

Players being more "knowing" and acting less goofy is definitely a big factor in a decrease in the quality of the coverage too. I'm not talking about Hevad Khan type antics, but moreso stuff like Paul Snead vs Tiffany Michelle vs Scott Montgomery insanity, Scott Lazar going on monkey tilt, or Beth Shak dancing around the room with her aces. Nowadays the best we get is an unnamed amateur tripping on the stage as he approaches the feature table and falling into Ivey's arms.

Not only does negreanu steamroll through the field rivering trips, gutshots, etc. he also gets moved to the table with all the rich businessmen and gets aces his first hand. mbn4sho

Just rewatched it and I'm guessing it's a graphics mistake since you never actually see Tricketts cards (my guess would be that he had the A)
