Hello everyone,

First of all : yes, I did search the forum and couldn't find a thread specific on this matter so started a fresh one.

I've been watching almost all videos available when it comes to poker tournaments or cash games during the last four years or so, and so far, the only ones I didn't enjoy best were the ones he's been commentating on.

He's always making mistakes now and then about outs available to hit, he uses a somewhat fake tone when there is a serious action but it delivers the opposite effect.

I use to post comments on that guy in other threads but today while watching another Sunday Million highlight on Pokerstars.tv, he fails again as he does in every episode :

@ 21:16 min in the show, Palurdo is holding 77 against blony_tair JQ , the board comes AA6K so to save blony_tair he credit him to hit either a jack a ten or a queen : David, what about a King to give Blony_tair two higher pairs with a better kicker ?

I could review each episode he's been commentating : there is at least a basic mistake a commentator who's been on the scene like him for ages wouldn't do anymore.

Add the fact he's not funny at all, I just wonder why he still gets to comment poker shows : he doesn't add any value at all to those shows.
I don't know if he's one of the reason why Live at the bike stopped but personally I would have stopped watching the show just because of him, at least Bart was funny.

I'm posting this to have your say as I am not located in an English speaking country so I can't really debate with people not watching the shows.

Btw, English not being my mother tongue, don't flame me about my poor grammar, just debate on the subject of this thread.

Thank you all.

most people watching aren't nitpicking every single detail in order to make a post about it on an anonymous message board.

I think he does his job well. If you don't like him, turn your sound off. (IMO)

He has a pleasant tone and I think it's his best feature. He kind of knows poker it seems but I feel like he should be better at projecting what the players are thinking without being able to see hole cards.

If reading the board incorrectly at least once in almost every Pokerstars Sunday shows he's commenting is acceptable, I guess you accept a fly in you icecream from your local shop now and then as well.

I think the problem in the newest Million Dollar Cash Game wasn't David Tuckman, it was Robert Williamson III.
However, you are right, he's a bit annoying and seems just a little too excited about Cunningham.

He is btw a decent cashgame player himself and def knows at least more than 95% of the other poker commentators.
I like Gabe Kaplan, Bart Hanson and i think David Tuckman is pretty good as well and THATS IT. Mike Sexton is a tournament donkey at best. I think alot of shows would have potential with better commentators but are unwatchable because of the devastating bad commentators..

I like his commentary a lot allthough the last Full Tilt Million was weird, looked like it had to be done semi-live and there was no room for take 2 sort of speak. Like the PokerHeaven Cashgame show he did as well where he asked the right questions. Nice guy as well.

[ ] Understands Sexton's point of view.

Mike Sexton is trying to appeal to and educate the masses. He could surely get more in-depth if he wanted to. The audience he is speaking to is largely uneducated about poker, so he keeps it simple. Don't confuse this with his knowledge or ability.

tuchman was his best on the live at the bike shows, where he was actually probaby better then alot of the people he was commenting on, and his knowledge of the game was commensurate with the state of the game at that time.

what a stupid comment this is. Adds zero to the debate.

I completely agree with OP. I find Tuckman very annoying, been watching the latest Million Dollar Cash Game, he talks far too much and keeps cutting across the real analyst (Gary Jones who provides some actual insight). And how many times does he mention it's the "MILLION DOLLAR!!!!" cash game, "there's over a MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!" on the table etc etc.

As far as knowledge comes he's one of the best commentators. I mean, c'mon, what was awful about the million dollar cash game is that cheesy aura of the set, together with a lot of "nothing happens" hands and huge episodes. I like his analysis because I feel he's a better player than me and makes some good judgment about hands while they are occurring and even makes you actually think about the game itself. "Would he bet a six here?" "His range must be polarized since he wouldn't be value betting worse than a set"

For something like the WCOOP or SCOOP his coverage was awesome in those variants of poker even doyle only heard about.

I don't care if he misses a couple of outs now and then, I'd be a nit if I was gonna pick that up. If you're gonna pick something small as that as a reason to bash someone on a thread, I have to say there's something wrong with what you're watching.

BTW, Tuckman's doing commentary for the NAPT Tuesday-Thursday this week. I expect it'll get a better response than his work on the Million $ Cash Game.

He's not one of my favorites, but he's not horrible. His main problem seems to be getting paired with complete idiots like on MDCG. Gary Jones and RWIII are both unbearable to listen to.

He's the best part about the commentating for the million dollar cash game. Hes bad enough to ask dumb questions that i might ask and good enough to make insightful commentary at the same time.

Commentators on any sports show for any sport are their to appeal to lowest denominator. If you expect him or anyone else to explain the implied odds when you already know them yourself then you don't get it. He's there to explain poker to people who don't understand even the basic mechanics of the game. Same goes for any name commentator in any other televised sport.

I think he's definitely one of the better poker player commentators though solo he does drag a lil bit but so does gabe talking to himself on hsp. From what i remember of his commentating he seems the closest to how us "new age" internet kids think and avoids saying things like , ~"he needs to protect his hand by betting more than the pot and keep him from drawing" and mike sexton's bias commentating and fairly lackluster knowledge of the current game.

The haters should just turn it off. WTF? It's like banging your head against the wall and telling us it hurts. Here's a news flash, stop banging your head!

Of all the poker commentators around, he is one of the better ones. He has a true knowledge of the game, is a winning cash game player, is somewhat quick witted and overall, a lot better than Brandon Adams, Mike Sexton, Vince, Gabe, AJ, jesse, yada, yada, yada. So he makes a few mistakes now and again, BFD. Anyone watch the card graphics on the Aussie Millions that they couldn't get right? $hit happens.

I just love the anonymous posters who criticize everything but wouldn't be able to even perform to 1/10 the ability of someone else.

Hats off to Mr,. Tuckman, for what I think, is enjoyable commentary, even with a few goofs.

I've met Tuckman before at a few epts and he's a really nice guy and a really great personality for radio slash tv/internet commentary but just like 99% of tv poker commentators he doesn't understand the game at our level, but if he did he'd be making way more playing poker at that level instead of discussing it.

That he ties for my favorite eptlive host, because i don't want to be caught picking favs
