I think he's a good announcer for the most part, especially when he doesn't understand what's going on between two people in a hand and guesses. That's good for the fish to watch and think they are learning.

I really enjoy Gabe. Some of his pop culture references go a bit *too* far back (although maybe the demographic for the show appreciates this) but intuition, scripting, and editing seem to have resulted in the right mix of analysis, comedy, and silence at all the right times on any given episode. I also enjoy their "fourth wall" commentary, noting the times where the show goes off the rails and is no longer about poker either in a positive or negative way.

Gabe is definitely the best play by play commentator, coupled with the fact that he's funny definitely makes him the best commentator.

Love him, but the only reason mike sexton+norman/vince sucks its because their audience target. They are targetting people like your mother and father who have no clue on poker. Gabe's audience is generally people who has played a bit of poker.

Calling Stupak the Ghost of Christmas Past really cracked me up.

Lets also not forget that Gabe Kaplan sat in the game and handled himself pretty well. He is my favourite announcer with nobody coming even close.

As already said, Kaplan is the best comentator for sure, without him HSP could be nearly as good.

But about his best comment on the show, I'd vote for his line after the interview with Greenstein and Durrr when J9 beat Aces ("Math is idiotic" hand)
So after the 2 players agreed it's Greenstein's lucky Indian feather that made him win, Kaplan said: "For all of you who wish to play their jacks vs aces, you are invited to my home game...and bring your feathers!"
