There is a flat rate... Its called 18%-20%, you cheap B***ard.

I'm a bartender in New York City and work souly (sp) for tips and no paycheck. So I appreciate ever last tip. And I'm pretty damn generous when it comes to tipping in any restaraunt (sp), $10 sandwich or $60 steak they get 25% and upwards!!!

Well Paddys day is just round the corner, happy tipping!!!

If I go to the same restaurant two nights in a row, and one night I order a meal that costs $60 (for 2 people) and then next night I order a meal that costs $30 between two people (same number of courses, amount of food), and lets assume that I have the same waiter/tress both nights. Are you telling me that that waiter/tress did $5 more work the $60 than the $30 night?

Re: Tipping on High Stakes Poker...

All I have to say about tipping, is I tip more than i Should, and usually still tip even if I get bad service...

This being said... I really feel that if you don't give the best service to your ability , you don't deserve a tip...

that being said Im still a chump and tip the baddies.

You americans are crazy with the tipping.

In my opinion a tip shouldn't be expected. If you choose to tip because of good serivce that is your choice. You shouldn't be expected to do it.

As mentioned in poker a rake is taken to pay dealers, so you only need to tip them if you feel they have given good service and want too. Your not paying them, you have already done that.

I have heard horror stories from over there where places automatically add tip to your bill or bring it back if the tip isn't enougth. That is just a joke!

Re: Tipping on High Stakes Poker...

what most of you don't understand.... either because you have 9-5 jobs or are pro poker players or work in a union..... is that people in the service industry get hosed when it comes to getting paid. whether it be dealers, servers, bartenders, caddies... they all get paid jack and make their bread and butter when someone shows a little appreciation for what they do. you don't wanna tip a server? fine cook your own damn food and clean your own kitchen.
they make less than 3 dollars an hour and their whole paycheck is based on how hard they work, and sometimes some cheap " i-don't- believe- in- tipping" snob walks in and skips on their check.

its the only situation when the consumer determines their own price for the service.

pay up... if you're too cheap to tip, don't get zhitty when you get laughed at when a one outer hits on the river or a glass of wine accidentally spills on your over priced egyptian cotton polo sweater.

Bitter? You certainly make a good case for servers coming off with such a poor attitude...

Ok first of all I always tip, anywhere from 15%-25% depending on the quality of service. That being said I don't agree with the logic that you got a ****ty job in the service industry, get paid poorly, and now it's somehow my problem and my duty to correct this in the universe. The truth is people are underpaid in all walks of life, but somehow in the service industry they've managed to convince everyone that it's the customers job to take care of it. It's not, it's the owners, who incidentally are the real winners in this whole situation. They pay their employees LESS and get the bonus of them working extra hard (to earn their tip) it's win/win. And their employees complain about cheap CUSTOMERS hahahah I love it.

Surprising that a tipping thread would turn out this way.
