Tipping on High Stakes Poker...

Quick Question...

In the $500,000 buy in on High Stakes Poker how much are the red and white chips that the dealers are getting tipped?

Thanks...

From hearing about some of these players, the dealers should be happy they got the $5.

i'm surprised farha has any of those chips at all... he'd be more likely to punch a dealer in the head before he gave them a tip

Re: High Stakes Poker...

Why should a dealer get more per tip in a $500,000 buy in than a $200 buy in? It's the same job and amount of work right? Though I also never understood why waitresses should be tipped based on the price of meals. If I buy a $10 sandwich or $60 steak the waitress does the same amount of work brining a plate to me. I'm not like the guy on Reservoir Dogs because I think they should be tipped, but I think a flat rate at all restaurants should be accepted.

Well to play devil's advocate, because a **** up at $500,000 buy in game could be a more costly problem than at a $200 buy in game?

this isn't true. the level of service you get with your 10 dollar steak is much less than the level of service with the 60 dollar steak. also, your waiter is sharing their tips with the busser, food runner, and bartender at the fancy joint.

Re: Tipping on High Stakes Poker...

I have this crazy idea. How about the casino takes a portion out of every pot (let's call this "rake" for example) and the casino that employs the dealers pays them for their work. That way you don't have to think about how much to tip because it's already included in the price. Crazy enough?

thats just bad business. so a server gives subpar service to a smaller bill than a larger one? you should give the same level of service until you are given a reason not to .

QFT +1

It could then be up to the manager to evaluate the dealers and not the players. Like it is in most other businesses.

There was one HSP episode where Farha chopped a pot or something, then he tipped the dealer, who thanked him. He immediately said, "No, thank YOU for being here and doing such a good job" or something to that effect. I was watching with a bunch of Bellagio dealers and they all busted out laughing as it was so obvious he was only doing it for the cameras.

Which do you think requires more mental energy and causes greater stress: dealing $4-8 or dealing $4k-$8k? Yet dealers at Bellagio regularly walk out of Bobby's room emptyhanded. Of course, there is always the chance that you get lucky and get a black chip or better.

There is a flat rate... Its called 18%-20%, you cheap B***ard.

I'm a bartender in New York City and work souly (sp) for tips and no paycheck. So I appreciate ever last tip. And I'm pretty damn generous when it comes to tipping in any restaraunt (sp), $10 sandwich or $60 steak they get 25% and upwards!!!

Well Paddys day is just round the corner, happy tipping!!!
