In Time (justin timberlake) - another ridiculous poker scene
I guess if u haven't watched the movie u should probably skipped this unless u dont mind any spoiler*
So just watched the movie "In Time" yesterday, was not expecting a poker scene since it was mentioned no where in the trailer and stuff. so when Will (justin timberlake) decide to gamble his entire life span he got of 100+ years on a poker match, i got excited and actually sat up to watch the scene (even tho i knew it was prob not gonna be something ridiculous, but i just enjoy watching any poker scene in a movie, felt kinda like a james bond thing and i think that's what the director was going after from reading Justin timberlakes interview response)
So people die when they "timed out" (run out of time), first of all i have no idea why Will wanted to gamble his entire life, i kno he wants to get out of ghetto area, but he was prob out of his mind. so he played at a stake where he is putting his whole life at risk,
Actually i dont think i remember the action completely, flop is 5 Q 7 i think, Phillipe Weis (which is amanda seyfried's dad) has pocket Queens. turn i think is blank, and Weis bets 50 years. Will calls (he only has 105 years at the start of the hand). river is 6 and Weis bets (and this part i was a bit confused) 2 centuries. and Will calls (i thought he only had 105 total. how did he get 200 additional years). anyways Will turns over 48, for a straight made on the river lol. so yea pretty much not gonna happen in real life, and Weis congratulates Will and say nice hand or something, shouldn't he be tilting hard right now? lol
anyways I think that's how the hand went down from my memory , im too lazy to look it up to confirm, if anyone realize any of the action is wrong plz correct it, i dont remember with 100% certainty if the 6 came on the turn or river, which makes a big difference. anyways just thought its an interesting scene from an recent movie. look forward to see any comments ppl have regarding this scene/ movie.

That sounds hilarious. Calling 50 years on a gutshot.

Obviously balancing his range.
I wonder if people in that movie go up to old people and say "But how much did you lose?"

Re: In Time (justin timberlake) - another ridiculous poker scene
We see action on the turn, where the pot is 600 years.
Q 5 7 J
****ing idiot pointy head guy bets 50 years, our nob of a hero calls
river 6
bet 200 years, hero has 200 years and like 30 seconds left, hero tank calls
and slowrolls 84o, beating villains trup QQQ,
before claiming the pot with 1 second left to live

Re: In Time (justin timberlake) - another ridiculous poker scene
yea i also forgot to mention Justin Timberlake made a horrible read (either that or its just bad poker script). he said he call or something because he felt villain is weak, and then he rolls over the 2nd nuts lol. Villain has Set of Queens which is 3rd nuts, but 89 is pretty much unlikely since JT has blocker.
so yea according to Will Salis or the director of the film, Set of Queen is weak hand lol.
STILL, can someone explain why Will Salis has 200 more years to bet???? didn't he sit down with 105 years total? plus he pay 1 year to get into the casino so he has 104 years lol. and since POT after the flop is 600, he obviously put in a decent chunk (i forgot how many players were in the pot, but assuming 5 (since no one folds preflops in movies), Will put in 120 years already on the flop. plus 50 on the turn, and 200 more on the river.
yea... he suddenly had 370 years on his belt.... huge fail by movie scripter, or can someone explain lol

Not really a fail by the script. More likely it's a fail by you thinking its inconceivable that there was a jump in time before that hand. He had most likely played for a while before than hand. Especially considering there is like 600 years in the pot on the turn.
I watched it with some friends, one of which is a poker buddy. After Will flipped up 84o we both loled. In his defense. The pot was 600 years, and the dude bet 50 years. He's giving Will 13-1 to call with his gutter.

Yeah saw the movie too, he actually had more than 105 when that scene started. Obviously Will was an online player and was crushing the live donks for a while before that hand took place. I actually thought the movie was half way decent though.

i realize his call on the turn has good odds. but yea i dont remember how the pot got to 600 years or how he double up to 300 years to start the hand. and i guess his gutter has huge implied odds if he hits so its alrite play. but still... he said at the end that he felt his opponent's weak... so im assuming if he misses his gutter he's gonna bluff off all his reminding years? lol
