This reminds me of the argument they had a few years ago. All the pointy headed intellects in LA were ridiculing locals who called the city just south of the border "tee-uh-wanna" They said it was offensive not to refer to it correctly as "teh-huana".

Later after it had died down, I'm listening to NPR talking about old Baja and the guest professor says the city name is a variance of the old Indian name that was pronounced "tee-uh-wanna".
