Norman Chad: Why? Norman Chad: Why?

I do not understand how he is on and why he is on.

I assume he knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody, but why would somebody tell him to go talk about poker when he knows absolutely nothing about poker?

Entertainment value.

He was in the right place at the right time 6 years ago.

I love the guy. It's a ton better than Mike Sexton and his over serious manner and over dramatic style. Did you hear that comment Norman made about Dan Harrington and an insurance scam? Pure gold.

The guy's a riot - one of the funniest commentators on TV. Leave him alone.

I don't mind Mike's style that much, but it's not really a fair comparison between the two. The two color guys are Norman Chad and Vince Van Patten, and between those two I'd take Norm with his "Demon Deacons" and "She looks like my 17th ex wife!" schtick over VVP and his "He's got a pair of wired kings" or whatever old-timey sounding poker jargon he's using.

I agree. What the F*** is it with VVP and saying wired pair everytime someone has a pocket pair. Its F**king stupid. No one ever says that, and it makes you look like a tool. And please stop with the over dramatic way you comment on the WTP. Everyone knows its an ALL-IN fest when you get to the final table. Thats why a bunch of pros were boycotting it awhile back. WPT needs to stop all together.

More Norman chad please.

norman chad is so cringeworthy though, i personally cant stand him but i do beleive that he is used to help temper the poker for non poker playing viewers on espn.
although i do beleive that there are many better candidates out there.......there must be

I have to watch the WTP with the mute button on.
Norman Chad knows his Seinfeld history. Good enough for now.

He's fine for donkaments because they appeal to the general public, but he would be terrible for televised deep stacked cash games that the more hardcore players watch.

i kind of have a soft spot for norm from an entertainment perspective, but would it kill the guy to learn a little about poker? this is one of the main things he's been doing for several years now. it's frustrating listening to him talk about a concept as simple as pot odds and get it completely wrong. of course you could argue that it's good if he's giving bad advice to the masses, but i think the effect is pretty negligible since part of his shtick (besides the ex-wife thing) is that he claims to be bad at poker. which would be fine, but when he's actually trying to explain a situation, he probably ought to know enough by now to get it close to right sometimes. if he was halfway decent at understanding poker he could be a great commentator

I had a Norman Chad sighting at around midnight once at the Bike. I had to do a double take as he was walking out and had to confirm w/ one of the floorpersons that it was indeed him. He looked a little drunk and had a disheveled look. Totally out of it and yet cool as can be. I just wanted to say I saw him even though it has nothing to do w/ OP's point.

P.S. I enjoy his commentary. Id love to see Gabe and Norman commentate on a show. The dynamics would be great.

Because he's entertaining and is not bashful about pointing out when someone is acting like a douchebag.
