His amazing reads/calls/laydowns are against a lot of the weaker players, and some of them are, quite frankly, standard.
Most of his incorrect plays are against players in the top two or three tiers of poker.
In HSP 5 and 6, I think Negreanu's bad play can be attributed to him not successfully adapting to a different table dynamic. In the first four seasons, he was justified in being an active player in in a lot of pots because of how weak a lot of the tables were. He did make some bad calls in pretty big pots when he was unlucky, and steaming, but I think he also made some really good plays, which were not emphasized because they were in lots of smaller pots.
Recently, he's been against much tougher line ups, and as a result, he's nitted up and played a bit weaker, but he hasn't adjusted his entire game to fit that (if he wants to take this approach, he should really play more like Esfandiari or Doyle).
