Good question, especially to prove or disprove the claim that Eli Elezra is the worst player on HSP. My memory might fail me here, but I have seen all episodes many times, and while he likes to mix it up, I can't remember him making many serious errors.
Kidpoker has openly admitted his weakness in the online world on his blog and is working hard to improve his game. im sure there are any number of players that are better than him online. But I will repeat my earlier comment. 12 mill in career earnings puts him in a elite tier of players period.
Maybe the key figures you look at to determine whether someone is in an "elite tier of players" is flawed, and the only reason you believe it to be true is because you're extremely inexperienced and/or naive.
Did Daniel not win in season 3? I havent seen all the episodes, but i remember him winning a few big pots and not splashing around as much as he did in season 2.
What I like about HSP is watching the different styles of play collide at the table. DN may have been unlucky, off on his reads every ONCE in a while, etc. but the man can narrow down what the other player is holding better than anyone. Eli gets bull-headed with middle pair but who wouldn't against Durr - the kid is always behind on the flop and ahead on the turn. But hell, you have to admire his maniac play and the action its gets him when he has a real hand....and that three barrel bluff against Ivey, when Ivey almost called with button pair of 66, was the best hand of poker I have ever seen. Galfond looks like a complete fish on the show and then lays down a full house to Eli (something full of kings), WTF!!! But, he really was not beating any hand Eli had and Eli bet too big.....but still, WTF.
I think there is alot of excellent play from everyone, except Phil Helmuth, he is just such an ass and everyone on the show knows it.
Well, where there are winners, there are losers too,
Daniel is very creative and it might costs him, but face the fact: a loser isn't always a bad player
in my book, daniel is an overall winner, and also an incredible good player
He's a good player, and one of the best on High Stakes, if you watch every season you know what I mean.
The problem with him is his playing style, it almost always sets him up for an epic bad beat. That half a million he lost to Matusow in 2 hands was really careless, he should've considered how tight Matusow is, he wasn't even mathematically forced to call 200k when he only had 45k in the pot in 1 hand.
He's invited back because of pokerstars, he's their mascot. He's rich enough to rebuy for another 1000 seasons anyways.
I wonder who is the one player who has lost the most, total, in the 6 seasons of HSP.
He'll always get invited (and staked), so I think DN is going to be A-OK even though he'll continue to donk off chips on HSP season after season.
There's a thread in this forum (HSP Stats Database) that will attempt to answer these types of questions. The goal is to post all the hand histories on HSP. The "project" is in the very early stages so there is ample time for people to contribute.
I watched all of the S6 episodes over the past few days. I didn't think he played terribly this year. He might not have played great either, but you can't deny that he didn't get unlucky.
On the other hand, I feel like he often picked bad times to make moves. You can chalk this up to luck, but the truly world class players seem to "know" when to make a move whereas DN seemed to mix them in randomly. Sometimes it worked. Other times not so much. That's a far cry from durrrr and Ivey, who always seemed to know exactly where they were in a hand when they went out on a limb.
In general, tourney players seem to struggle on this show. Negreanu, Hellmuth (lol), Mercier, and ElkY have really impressive results in tournaments. In cash games they don't seem as comfortable. Given the choice though, I would probably rather back any of those guys in a NLHE tourney than durrrr or Antonius (even though the latter two are superior poker players).
Daniel Negreanu "IS" the worst player on HSP......
He has played every f*ckin season/episode and he has not improved one bit.. does that sound like a good player? hell no.. Also his act is getting tiresome, he constantly talks out every possible hand his opponent is possibly on and then always makes the wrong call.... and after he makes the wrong call he always says "Yup, I knew you had that".. Ok daniel, ya knew he had that for the millionth time but yet you still called... again...
He may not be the worst cuz that title belongs to Jamie Gold hands down, but he is the mainstay consistently worst player on HSP...
Dennis Phillips wasn't great, but you also have to take into account his experience. With regards to Daniel N., I felt like some of his plays were almost hard to watch. I feel like he made too many small mistakes that even I [been playing for 3 years, 1 year seriously] wouldn't make. It's disappointing, but he isn't bad. Just needs to improve certain parts of his game.
