Seriously is there anyone in the history of High Stakes Poker that has absolutely bungled more hands than Daniel Negreanu? Every week it seems he is either making a piss poor payoff with the worst hand, laying down the best hand, attempting a futile bluff, or playing check-call poker and letting himself get outdrawn. It's getting almost embarassing to watch!

Of course not (in response to the title). Jamie Gold and various other amateurs were worse, if nobody else.

Unfortunately DN has various leaks and every week there seems to be a spot that highlights one.

Edit: However, you may be right that he has "bungled more hands" than anyone, because he's played so many hands on the show over the years, and he keeps getting in painful (for him) spots.

He was a huge winner in season 4 (I think by far the biggest in that particular session ...).

obviously a level.As much as he plays bad sometimes in high stakes he has got very unlucky .At elast he has the balls to put his money where his mouth is and play with the big boys.Hes prob one of the best tournament players ever so i doubt he cares too much wat the op has to say

DN definitely had a terrible game on the latest episode of HSP, but imo Phil Hellmuth has been the worst ever on HSP.

what a stupid question. Isn't poker supposed to be "one long game" not one session? He has had his bad plays and his bad luck but damn. To say he is the worst one ever on High Stakes? What the hell have you been watching?

Negreanu is by far not the worst player on HSP.

Negreanu is undoubtedly outclassed in NLHE by Ivey, Benyamine, Dwan and PA; but the same is true of most players ever on HSP. Negreanu just happens to be one of the most active, and most attractive for TV time, so you're more likely to see him get beat than most other players.

IMHO Elezra deserves a lot more bashing than Negreanu.

Thanks for clarifying that. When watching Elezra play, I wasn't sure if I was watching advanced nth level poker strategy, or...just picking up bad habits...

IDK there's not much to be said about Eli's game. He makes some sort of hand and tries to hold on. Which isn't all that awful, really, in most of the lineups he's faced.

DN is trying to do more, and failing.

So I guess it depends on your definition of "bad" play.

He's definitely not the worst player ever but I think a case could be made that out of all the pros that have appeared on the show he's made the most fundamental mistakes on a consistent basis.

Over the seasons it seems that Negreanu loves to call or raise marginal hands preflop and then just get lost on how to play them postflop. I always think of the hand against Gus Hanson where it was set over set on the flop and then Gus sucked out to hit quads. Negreanu seemed to know he was probably beat once Gus shoved the river but he played the hand with a tournament mentality. Once there were so many chips in on the river he felt that he needed to call just in case he wasn't beat. I think his main problem is that he doesn't know how to properly represent a hand once it gets to the flop. It seems that instead of trying to pick good spots to bluff based on whats fallen on the board he just makes up his mind preflop that he's going to bluff the hand.

I admire Negreanu for outright admitting that his game is nowhere near that of Ivey's, Patrick's, and Dwan's and that he's working on it. At the same time I feel that that admission is a bit under reflected on what we actually see on tv. It seems that lately his current strategy against players like Durrrr is too just play super loose and try to bluff catch. Durrrr has clearly realized this and I believe its been pointed out that thats probably exactly how he would like Negreanu to play against him given his superior skills.

He didn't come to this conclusion (or at least didn't admit it publicly AFAIK) until after the current season was filmed, so we're still seeing the "old" DN.

His weak play from seasons 5-6 does NOT make him worse than Fred Charmanara or Amir Nasseri or Bob Safai

Thats a good point, I wasn't exactly sure on the timeline of events when I wrote that. Still, I think that he probably could and should have realized that before season 6.

While Eli doesn't play optimal compared to some of the other players at the table, he does make up for it by avoiding fancy plays with minimal information.

DN is trying to make fancy plays just for the sake of fancy plays...and they aren't going to work against players that have him read well. He has no clue where Dwan is in any hand. It's akin to a blind man swinging at a Pinata. Eventually, he'll make contact...but the other twenty times he's just flailing about like an idiot.
