The 'I successfully avoided any spoilers about the WSOP' thread

Title says it all.

I avoided everything 2+2 except a few threads I had bookmarked, and the video games forum. I also covered the news popup screens on FTP and Stars when playing online, and avoiding sites like yahoo and ESPN. When wanting to look at sports, I would type in sports.yahoo.com/nba to make sure I didn't accidently get the winner spoiled to me.

Last night at the casino, a conversation almost broke out about the final 2, and I got them to stop, and saved any spoiler. I thought about going on the main yahoo.com page today at work, but didn't. Turns out my wife found out the winner on there, and almost spoiled it to me during a phone conversation a mere 30 minutes before the show aired. I sure dodged a lot of bullets!

Your tale?

Yeah I agree it was much more exciting. I will be listening to the whole thing next year.

I'm so glad I listened to the audio cast. To hear all the hands and pros talk about how they think about the game was pretty cool.

Re: The 'I successfully avoided any spoilers about the WSOP' thread

Didn't play any poker online due to being paranoid about some random advertisement congratulating the winner or congratulating ivey on his 7th place finish. Avoided 2p2, didn't watch espn or go to any news sites.

...

Except today, when I went to foxnews.com to read something about the sniper shooter being executed when lo and behold I see cadas stupid face. Tears almost welled up in my eyes. FFFFFFFFFFFUUUU FOX

Yahoo flashed the winner..... My brother was just trying to check his email. I made it through successfully. Great show can't wait to hear audiocast.

lol. I had the same reaction. I was spoiled 20 minutes before the broadcast. My father - who hates that I play (gamble!) - told me.
Then later, after the luckfest final table he commented sarcastically about poker being a game of skill.

I personally couldn't care less about knowing the results beforehand. I try to respect those that are in your camp but I think you have to go so far out of your way to avoid it it's just too much of a burden.

Congratulations, I guess... whatever makes you happy. I'm sure it was not an easy thing to do.

If you don't have 20 hours to invest in railing the final table it's nice to be able to watch it unfold without knowing the result.

Re: The 'I successfully avoided any spoilers about the WSOP' thread

i isolated myself from all news, poker sites, email, and espn since the start of the FT. had a little slip up when a new poker edge podcast d/led on itunes saying "akenhead and schaffel discuss their elimination". having a bio test on monday night helped keep my head off poker, but tuesday consisted of hours of missed flash forward episodes, denzel in ricochet, hearts, and soduku.

after all this my idiotic roommate who i begged not to say anything, says "is there a 21 year old at the final table?" in his gay ass, nasally voice. f*cking ridiculous. average tards like him just don't understand what the ME means to a poker fan. at least he's transferring next semester. the retard's transferring from binghamton to u of buffalo. lmao. just so he could suck the c*cks of his high school friends. as the infamous PH once said "you sir, are an idiot!"

Re: The 'I successfully avoided any spoilers about the WSOP' thread

I debated the merits to watching it unfold w/ updates online vs watching the ESPN broadcast. Me and a guy I work with had a blast watching it and guessing who would win each pot. Since they usually only show big pots, I could usually guess the board with decent precision. For example, on the 78 vs 9J hand, I guessed the flop would be 9TJ...off by one card . I also guessed Darvin's all in w/ K9, because they wouldn't show a standard raise, 3 bet hand unless it ended up a big pot, or Ivey won it.

Re: The 'I successfully avoided any spoilers about the WSOP' thread

My mom came to my room 1 hour before the broadcast and told me "Hey, you know what? some 21 years old kid just won the WSOP"

...

So I figured that neither Ivey nor Moon were 21.

GFG.

Re: The 'I successfully avoided any spoilers about the WSOP' thread

I avoided spoilers, it wasn't that hard. I also had the additional burden of the FT not airing in Canada until midnight. I had to ask my gf to google to find out when I could watch it. She did find out that Ivey was knocked out but didn't tell me.
