Sup all,

Does anyone know anything about starting, or opening up a card room in California?. As far as rules and legalities? I live In Ventura county which is about an hour north of LA. The closest casino is about 1 hour away from where I live. However, there is a place in Ventura called the Players Club. It's small, 6 poker tables, but in a ****ty area. There's talk of them moving the club to a bigger place somewhere around here, but not sure when that will be. I think we can make a better one anyway.

I have a friend that is very wealthy who wants to make it happen. Although something tells me its gonna be tougher to pull off then we think.

If anyone has any info, advice or ideas it would be much appreciated.

As far as I know, there's a moratorium on new licenses until sometime in the next decade.

First you find a lawyer who specializes in what you want to do. Then you find out who to bribe..........

there was an attempt to purchase a new license in San Luis Obisbo county for a new card room by a former Indian Casino cardroom manager that has never got past the red tape etc, from what I understand it is simply easier to purchase an existing cardroom/license, but most are unwilling to sell, although the rumored asking price of one local license for a non-descript 3 table cardroom was in the $500,000 range

I used to live in Ventura, and from what I was told, the Players Club has a grandfathered gambling lisence from the 30s and it's not legal to open a new cardroom there. There was some worry about the place going under 4-5 years ago when I was playing, and this was what the regulars were telling me, so it might not be completely accurate.

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/di...le=19800-19807 has some info on state gaming regulations under the Gambling Control Act, I'm not interested in wading through that for you

2+2'er Edmond Detentes purchased Club One last year, I know of at least one other deal that came close to being completed in the past year as well. The moritorium means nothing in the big scheme of things unless you want to do a new buildout, all you have to do is buy an existing card club and get licensed.
