The only thing I like about WSOP online poker is no HUD's. I can not wait till Pokerstars gets approved in NV. The game selection is so much better.

The more people that watch it on TV will get more people addicted
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but even if Stars came to NV, you still wouldn't be able to play internationally and the game selection wouldn't be much different than it is on WSOP. Just as the players on PS in Jersey can only play people within the state. They don't play against the ROW.

IMO cord cutting will continue to lower cable and satellite subscribers regardless of content. Overtime the absolute revenue for TV stations and cable providers will go down from this source.

It doesn't matter how popular something on TV is or becomes if the revenue for that content continues to go down. This is potentially a big long term problem for companies who rely heavily on TV rights fees like UFC and WWE does. I don't know how much TV rights fees WSOP gets, but for now no other potential broadcasting platform, like the internet, can currently replace the money they get from ESPN. And so long as people cord cut, that potential revenue continues to go down over time.

We know that ESPN is in deep trouble because Disney's investors grow increasingly unhappy with it. Yesterday ESPN announced they will let go on-air talent this year as part of the $250mil they were told to cut in 2017.

But that could go both ways for something relatively cheap as the WSOP. It obv. could end up on the chopping block but since ESPN has to fill its schedule somehow, it's also possible they focus more on low cost programming like poker.

Think outside the box, like they say... poker is already booming in many other countries.. espn can earn a lot from there via YouTube. I am sure their think tanks must be mulling over it. For all poker players around the globe wsop main event is a pilgrimage that everyone wants to go to. The boom around the world is big .. I believe that will be big enough reason for any sports channel to go for the coverage.

The poker boom is long gone in all of the industrialized world. By now, we're 11 years past UIGEA and 6 years past Black Friday.

Of course there are still growing markets in emerging or third world countries but it's highly questionable if ESPN wants to produce a program for those markets. It's pretty cool to manufacture a product in a low wage country and sell it in high wage countries, but the other way around usually makes way less sense.

ESPN let go about 100 reporters/talking heads today. None for poker so far

Seeing that they fired Jayson Stark, Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun, I'd say nothing and nobody is save except for the fact they have those expensive NBA rights and (college) football.

Guys who were there for over ten years, and they basically just quit on online coverage of the NHL during the playoffs.

ESPN is disgusting. They are politically leftist and push cultural Marxism at every opportunity. I unplugged a year and a half ago and am glad not to support that vermin.

I hope that the popularity of Andrew Neeme and the Trooper will bring more people back into the game

Took 33 posts for an ESPN discussion to get political, Trumpists are getting slow! Usually you'd expect that ESPN = left wing thing within the first 10 posts.

Yes. I hear a lot about Breakfast Lunch and Dinner everyday too. It is because they are real, no matter how strong the willful ignorance.

Are you denying that ESPN doesn't have a strong liberal bias?

They aren't just "slightly tilted left wing" that annoys most of us. That's perfectly fine, heck I probably tilt slightly to the left. The problem is when they force feed their bull**** it's that insane super left liberal dribble so far removed from reality I often question what planet they are living on. That's the stuff most of us can't stand, and it happens on the right too, and I would be complaining about the reverse if it were the case, but it's not.

The difference is this - If you want to listen to Alex Jones, the only place you are going to find somebody like Alex Jones is well, on his own show or one similar. Where as if I want to listen to Paul Krugman's rhetoric, I literally can't get away from it. It's in the movies, it's on ESPN, it's everywhere. **** is annoying.

What's wrong? Do you think ESPN is letting too many uppity minorities and women voice their opinions about sports?
