It's all scripted - but let's remember Gabe is also a comedian and he's been doing it for years - both comedy and poker.

I thought it was a collaboration - either way I have enjoyed it all and I think they've gotten better each time out.

full disclosure - they were pretty kind to me, soooooooo, take it with a grain of salt.

he's not haha laugh out loud funny but just enough for what it is.

if you want a good laugh get some Modern Family and 30 Rock

I actually can't think of a single poker commentator this is more funny than Joe Stapleton. His jokes are original and make me laugh >90% of the time.

Who does OP find funny?

Sucks that Stapleton gets bummed out by this one thread that is 99% positive.

I think Stapleton is a pretty good fit for a show like The Big Game. Pokerstars did a pretty good job in selecting him.

Whereas for a more serious show like HSP, I don't think Stapleton would fit in. Gabe Kaplan is truly an awesome commentator for HSP.

Stapleton is gold imo. So many awesome witty lines, have had to stop and rewind several times cause of too much giggling :P

You don't think Chris Rock or Mitch Hedberg's jokes were scripted. You don't think your favorite comedy film was scripted. What does that have to do with anything?

I think Stapes is hilarious, e.g.

"Like a nerd with a hot chick's phone number, Jason calls immediately"

That pretty well sums it up.

And Stapes could easily be the funniest man alive.

I think that this pretty much describes my opinion of Joe as well, the jokes seem poorly timed and forced. Some are ok, but there are just too many of them

In fairness, I think that my opinion of the "Tight Laydown" segment he did on the Poker Beat and the writing he did on the Poker2Nite show ( especially the Weekly Mis-Deal ) may have unfairly influenced my opinion of his work on the Big Game somewhat, but I still don't think he is as good as he's is getting credit for.

But since everybody thinks he is the nuts, I decided to give Two Jacks a listen. I thought that it was kind of good. Not shoot milk through your nose funny, but not bad either

Summary...

I do consider myself to have a good sense of humor and enjoy comedy clubs and Monty Python as much as the next guy. I am not a hater. I don't try to be hurtful and do try to be respectful of people's feelings. I just had an opinion on a topic and wanted to find out how others felt about the subject as well.

And while I will still occasionally get annoyed by the barrage of poorly timed zingers on the Big Game, I am no longer convinced tha Joe stapleton keeps getting hired because of his stash of compromising videos of people in a position to hire him
