Is it a poker show or is it a sitcom? Written jokes are held to a much higher standard than off the cuff humor. It's like when you're with a group of friends and a perfect set up arises for a great joke and you know it's far too witty to be spontaneous instead of laughing you say "How long have you been holding onto that one?"

I also hate it when a stand up comic goes on Leno and Letterman and they have Leno feed them questions that set up their monologues. Even though every guest on talk shows meet with the host before the show to go over what they want to talk about, it's especially cheesy when they're so blatant about it. "What are your thoughts on seedless watermelons?" [begin rant on seedless watermelons]

I'm not a big fan but he definitely is one of the better commentators and seems to know what he's talking about. BUT some of the repetitive analysis gets really annoying. For example, Jason Mercier raises on the button and Greenstein calls in the SB Stapes will always say something like "Barry makes the call in the SB because his hand is ahead of Jason's super wide button range"
It's a correct comment but he says it everytime and no poker player ever sits there preflop and thinks "hmmm is this J10ss ahead of his button range?

I think he is funny.

Have to say that I d this! He had said "For realz" earlier in the broadcast and I thought "Was that a bed intruder reference?" and then he confirmed it with this line.

I think he's pretty funny.

I haven't lolled yet... seems like he has to comment on everything and he thinks he's funny, but his judgement is a bit off. Also I don't like his voice, which is a bit "pushy".

Chris Rose is the man though. And speaking of funny, Gabe wins obviously.

I understand I'm in the minority here (which is a bit surprising), and I don't even get everything he says (I'm not a native English speaker), but that's how I've felt from almost all of his comments. There have been some comments to which I've almost smiled at.

He's similar to Bill Simmons' humour.

Take one part "his cards are so dead (how dead are they?)" + obscure pop culture reference = internet sensation.

Stapes is a good guy, witty and hilarious. I don't understand how someone couldn't like him.

He's not suppose to be funny, he's there to make comments on poker.

It may be too early to tell, but Stapleton could end up being the equal of Gabe Kaplan as a commentator.
